Favorites to win NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year
The top of the betting is obviously dominated by the big names from the draft, with three of the top five picks ranked in the top five of the market.
Aidan Hutchinson (+900) | EDGE | Detroit Lions | No. 2 pick
The favorite to win Defensive Rookie of the Year is Aidan Hutchinson, the Michigan edge rusher who was the No. 2 pick for the Detroit Lions.
After a senior year in which he broke the school record for sacks in a single season with 14, Hutchinson finished as runner-up for the Heisman Trophy, and was the only defensive finalist alongside three quarterbacks.
He did win several other awards, though, including the Lombardi Award, Ted Hendricks Award, Lott Trophy and Chicago Tribune Silver Football.
Hutchinson was favorite to go first in the draft but fell to second after the Jacksonville Jaguars took another defensive end, Travon Walker, with the No. 1 pick.
The Michigan native is still tipped by the bookmakers to outshine the rest and is +500 to win Defensive Rookie of the Year.
Kayvon Thibodeaux (+1200) | EDGE | New York Giants | No. 4 pick
The second favorite to win Defensive Rookie of the Year is Kayvon Thibodeaux, drafted five out of Oregon by the New York Giants.
Another edge rusher, Thibodeaux was named a unanimous All-American in his junior year in 2021 and announced he would forgo his senior year to declare for the draft.
Thibodeaux was the third edge rusher to be selected, going at No. 5 to the Giants, who will be hoping he can boost a defense that ranked 23rd in 2021.
He is priced at +1200 to win Defensive Player of the Year.
Kyle Hamilton (+4000) | Safety | Baltimore Ravens | No. 14 pick
Despite being taken at No. 14 in the draft, Ravens safety Hamilton is the joint-third favorite to win Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2022.
Hamilton was named an All-American as a freshman, sophomore and junior during his time at Notre Dame, where he recorded 138 tackles and eight interceptions over three years.
The Georgia native was the first safety taken in the draft and is considered by some to be the biggest prospect in the class of 2022.
In joining a Ravens team that is expected to challenge for the AFC North title, Hamilton could be one to watch in this market at +4000.
Travon Walker (+900) | EDGE | Jacksonville Jaguars | No. 1 pick
The top pick in the 2022 draft, Walker joins the Jaguars on the back of winning a national championship with the Georgia Bulldogs.
In 36 games for Georgia, Walker recorded 65 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, 9.5 sacks, and two fumble recoveries.
Although he was expected to go high in the first round, Walker was a somewhat surprise No. 1 pick, and will be under pressure to live up to that tag for a rebuilding Jacksonville.
He is the joint-third favorite to win Defensive Rookie of the Year at +900.
Who will win NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2022-2023?
Five of the last six winners of the award have been pass rushers, so it’s sensible to look at linemen and linebackers when betting on this market.
Unfortunately, that doesn’t narrow it down very much this year, with edge rushers dominating at the top of the market.
Favorite Aidan Hutchinson (+900) looks to be the most NFL-ready of the lot and has the ability to rack up a stat line – namely a healthy number of sacks – that will make him the prime candidate for this award.
