2023 Cook Out Southern 500 Starting lineup

On Saturday drivers will take to Darlington Raceway for a practice run at 12:35 pm Eastern Time followed by qualifying at 1:20 pm Eastern Time to determine the Southern 500 starting lineup for Sunday.

2023 Cook Out Southern 500 Betting Preview and Predictions

The 2023 NASCAR Cup Series playoffs are officially underway at Darlington Raceway on Sunday. With the 16 drivers set and ready to race, Darlington will provide us nonstop action like it did back in May when the drivers took the track for a regular season showing. William Byron won that race back in May after an accident shook things up towards the end of the race, eliminating Martin Truex Jr.’s chances in the process. The Cookout Southern 500 odds are out and ready to go, so lets break down some best bets for this NASCAR race this weekend.

2023 Cook Out Southern 500 Best Bets: Top picks Since switching to the Next Gen cars, Martin Truex Jr. has yet to finish a race at Darlington Raceway. Three races and three DNF’s with two the result of crashes and the other at the result of a water pump issue. While luck hasn’t been on his side in past races at Darlington, it will change on Sunday. Despite the no finishes, Truex Jr. has shown dominance at Darlington Raceway as in the race back in May, Truex Jr. led for a total of 145 laps before a crash towards the end of the race ended his day. Look for Truex Jr. to stay out of trouble and show us that dominating form he showed back in May.

The Pick: Martin Truex Jr. to win (+500)

Since switching to the Next Gen cars, William Byron has had great success at Darlington Raceway winning earlier this year and finishing 8th and 13th in the previous races at Darlington in the next gen cars. With the round of 16 starting off, Byron finds himself in a great position points-wise as he remains in first place off his regular season dominance. So unlike drivers towards the bottom of the playoff standings, Byron doesn’t need a win to advance to the round of 12, just a few good finishes. With that being said, I could see Byron winning on Sunday as he’s shown consistency at Darlington Raceway in the next gen cars.

The Pick: William Byron to win (+800)

As the playoffs stand right now, Kevin Harvick is currently in the first four out for the round of 16. While he still has two more races after Darlington to avoid elimination, Harvick would certainly like to have a good performance on Sunday to set himself up to avoid the cut after Bristol Motor Speedway. Outside of a crash last year, Harvick has had great success at Darlington Raceway since switching to the Next Gen cars, finishing fourth and second. Targeting a win as Harvick needs the points, he should find himself in a position to do so as he’s raced really well in the Next Gen cars at Darlington.

The Pick: Kevin Harvick to win (+1600)

NASCAR Sleepers Picks for Sunday 2023 Cook Out Southern 500

Fresh off elimination, Chase Elliott failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in Cup Series career. With that being said, I think Elliott will look to play spoiler on Sunday as he’ll show the NASCAR fans that whether he made the playoffs or not, he can still win. Now while it's not common for non-playoff drivers to win a playoff race, it still happens occasionally, with Kyle Busch winning a playoff race last year despite being eliminated. Since switching to the Next Gen cars, Elliott has had great success at Darlington Raceway has he’s finished fifth and third. Look for Elliott to race hard and steal the win on Sunday.

The Pick: Chase Elliott to win (+1600)
