The 2023 NASCAR Cup Series postseason is drawing toward its close, and Martinsville Speedway will be the site of the final Round of 8 race on Sunday. Next weekend, this year’s overall champion will be crowned at Phoenix Raceway. Two drivers, Christopher Bell and Kyle Larson, have already qualified for the Championship Round, having both won earlier races in the Round of 8. Two spots remain open for the championship-determining race at Phoenix, and six drivers will be fighting for those last two spots on Sunday in Virginia. The six contenders are William Byron, Ryan Blaney, Tyler Reddick, Martin Truex Jr, Denny Hamlin, and Chris Buescher. They will be the ones to watch on Sunday as they try to punch their ticket to Phoenix.

2023 Xfinity 500 Starting lineup

The Xfinity 500 starting lineup will be decided on Saturday during NASCAR’s qualifying round. The best qualifying time will earn the pole (also known as the top starting spot). Qualifying times from fastest to slowest will fill out the rest of the starting lineup, based on each driver’s performance on Saturday.

2023 Xfinity 500 Betting Preview and Predictions

We have reached the final race in the Round of 8, as Martinsville Speedway is the last stop before next weekend's Championship Race in Phoenix. With two spots left for the Championship Race (or Round of 4), tensions will be high on Sunday because six drivers have their seasons on the line. Christopher Bell and Kyle Larson, who already advanced to the final four, have won the last two races at Martinsville.

2023 Xfinity 500 Best Bets: Top picks

Since NASCAR’s switch to the Next Gen cars, Ryan Blaney has finished in the top 10 in all three races at Martinsville Speedway. Two of those top-10 performances were inside the top five, as he had a third-and fourth-place finish. Blaney knows this track and has had a lot of success on it. A top-five finish would likely be enough to get him into next weekend’s final four race at Phoenix, but a win would guarantee it. Look for Blaney to be finish among the top five yet again at Martinsville on Sunday and be in contention to win it as those final laps wind down.

The Pick: Ryan Blaney to win (+800)

There have been three race winners at Martinsville Speedway in NASCAR’s Next Gen cars. Those winners were Kyle Larson, Christopher Bell, and William Byron. Byron had a poor race at Martinsville earlier this season – finishing 23rd -- but he was the top driver overall this year, and nobody should count him out at a track where he has had lots of success throughout his career. In order for the points he earns from Sunday’s race to clinch a spot in next week’s Championship Round, Byron will at the very least need a top-10 finish. However, an outright win at Martinsville on Sunday would be a nice statement from Byron heading into the big event at Phoenix Raceway next weekend.

The Pick: William Byron to win (+1200)

Denny Hamlin has led the most laps at Martinsville Speedway (242) since NASCAR switched to the Next Gen cars. Hamlin currently sits in seventh place in the playoff standings. A great finish and/or win would do wonders for his championship aspirations since he is one of the six drivers with a chance to be in contention at Phoenix next weekend. With two top-five finishes in his last two appearances at Martinsville Speedway, Hamlin is primed and ready for a win that would put him in the Championship Round at Phoenix Raceway.

The Pick: Denny Hamlin to win (+350)

NASCAR Sleepers Picks for Sunday - Xfinity 500

I realize the theme of this article – and others I have written– has emphasized NASCAR’s switch to the Next Gen cars. Not to belabor the point, but this issue has been pivotal when breaking down races in 2023. Chase Elliott has finished in 10th place at Martinsville in all three Next Gen races. While he has yet to crack the top five, let alone win, Elliott has led the second-most laps at Martinsville in the current cars (239). The only driver ahead of Elliott in that area is Denny Hamlin with 242 laps led. It was stunning to see Elliott miss a chance to contend for the championship this year for the first time in his NASCAR career, but he has used it as motivation to play spoiler in these postseason races, and I can see him doing it on Sunday.

The Pick: Chase Elliott to win (+4000)
