The 143rd installment of the U.S. Open tennis tournament gets underway next week, and it will be the fourth and final Grand Slam event of 2023. The tournament, which takes place at the USTA’s Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York, will run from Aug. 28 through Sept. 10.

The U.S. Open features both men’s and women’s singles draws. Carlos Alcaraz returns as the defending champion on the men’s side, while Polish star Iga Swiatek looks to repeat as the women’s champ.

Favorites to win the 2023 US Open Women’s ChampionshipIga Swiatek of Poland has now won four major titles, which include three of the past four French Opens and the 2022 U.S. Open. She enters this year's competition as the defending champion and currently has the best odds to win the women’s tournament for a second straight year.

Swiatek is another superb hard-court player. Among the past year’s hard-court tournaments that followed her U.S. Open victory, Swiatek emerged as champion at the Qatar Open, the Indian Wells Open, and the Miami Open.

I’m going to go with Sabalenka here, and it would be superb for tennis fans if they get to see her take on Swiatek either on the road to the final or in the final itself. She’s one of my U.S. Open best bets, and I just can’t see how she doesn’t make it to at least the final four.

The 25-year-old from Belarus has reached the semifinals at all four Grand Slam events over the past year -- proving her ability to consistently play with the sport’s elite.

Her Wimbledon semifinal loss was heartbreaking, and I expect her to bounce back and claim the U.S. Open championship in New York.

Naomi Osaka won the 2018 U.S. Open by defeating Serena Williams, and she did it again two years later in 2020 by beating Victoria Azarenka.

The 2019 U.S. Open champion was Canada’s Bianca Andreescu, who also beat Serena Williams. Great Britain’s Emma Raducanu was the 2021 champion, and Iga Swiatek won it all in 2022 by defeating Ons Jabeur, who will be a dangerous threat once again this year.

Emma Raducanu won the U.S. Open in 2021 before being eliminated in the very first round the next year. That was a bitterly disappointing moment for the Brit. 

She has been hindered by injuries in the last year, but word is that the 20-year-old is healthy and ready to go for the 2023 tournament.
