The 143rd installment of the U.S. Open tennis tournament gets underway next week, and it will be the fourth and final Grand Slam event of 2023. The tournament, which takes place at the USTA’s Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York, will run from Aug. 28 through Sept. 10.

The U.S. Open features both men’s and women’s singles draws. Carlos Alcaraz returns as the defending champion on the men’s side, while Polish star Iga Swiatek looks to repeat as the women’s champ.

Favorites to win the 2023 U.S. Open Men’s ChampionshipCarlos Alcaraz, a 20-year-old Spanish sensation, has become the tennis world’s next great star after claiming two Grand Slam event titles in his last four attempts.

Alcaraz has been on a wild ride over the past year and recently became the youngest world No. 1-ranked men’s player in tennis history. He also won last year’s U.S. Open title by defeating Casper Ruud, making him the youngest winner since Pete Sampras accomplished the feat shortly after his 19th birthday in 1990.

Since winning the 2022 U.S. Open, Alcaraz has gone on to win the Argentinian Open, Indian Wells Masters, Barcelona and Madrid Opens, and the Queen’s Club Championship in the UK. Then, just this past July, Alcaraz claimed his second Grand Slam event title by defeating Novak Djokovic on center court in the final of Wimbledon.

Djokovic is also in the mix for a title at this year’s U.S. Open and will always be known as one of the best hard-court tennis players of all time. He has won 13 major championships on hard courts, including 10 Australian Opens and three U.S. Opens.

Djokovic last won the U.S. Open in 2018, when he defeated Juan Carlos del Potro in three sets. As one of the main favorites this year, he has fans wondering if they will see a Djokovic-Alcaraz rematch at some point late in this tournament.

Let’s take a look at the men’s odds to win US Open and make a couple of predictions for the competition.

Previous U.S. Open Men’s Singles Champions

The U.S. Open men’s singles tournament has seen five different winners over the past five years. Djokovic and Medvedev have each played in two of the last five finals, winning one apiece, while the other three victories went to Rafael Nadal in 2019, Dominic Thiem in 2020, and Carlos Alcaraz in 2022. Will we have yet another new men’s champion at the 2023 U.S. Open tennis event? Stay tuned.

In the post-1968 “Open Era,” three men have won the tournament five times. Pete Sampras claimed his fifth championship in 2002, and Roger Federer won the tournament a stunning five consecutive times between 2004 and 2008.

The first player to win five was American Jimmy Connors. He won it three times in the 1970s, and then back-to-back in 1982 and 1983.
U.S. Open Men’s Championship Predictions and Best Bets

Novak Djokovic is one of the tournament favorites, and his current form in 2023, (particularly on hard courts) makes him a tantalizing pick to win the U.S. Open in New York.

The 36-year-old has been outstanding this year. He won the French Open in June and made it to the Wimbledon final for a third straight year before losing to Carlos Alcaraz. He also recently won the Cincinnati Masters title by beating Alcaraz in the final.

The Serbian and young Spaniard are dominating men’s tennis right now, and at least one of them will almost certainly reach this year’s U.S. Open final.

Given his record on hard courts and the fact that he’s 20-1 on such surfaces this year, it’s safe to assume that Djokovic is playing some of his best tennis right now. He’s one of the best bets to win the U.S. Open and is my favorite here on the Betway Sportsbook.

The Pick:  Novak Djokovic to win the U.S. Open (+135)

If you’re looking for not just an underdog, but one that absolutely has a chance to steal the show, look no further than Daniil Medvedev.

The Russian has been killing it on hard courts this year with four titles, and his recent form gives him an outside shot at the prestigious U.S. Open championship.

Medvedev won the U.S. Open in 2021, beating Djokovic in the final. With +450 odds to win the tournament again this year, he presents an appealing betting opportunity since his odds are considerably longer than those of the top two favorites.

The Pick:  Daniil Medvedev to win the U.S. Open (+450)

2023 Men's U.S. Open Tennis Sleeper Picks

I like American Chris Eubanks here in front of a home crowd. He was one of the most electrifying talents at Wimbledon this summer, beating multiple ranked opponents. Eubanks took out Cameron Norrie in the second round and fifth-ranked Stefanos Tsitsipas in the Round of 16.

Eubanks’ form has dipped a little since Wimbledon, but imagine the storyline if the 27-year-old Atlanta resident can get back on track and make a run at the U.S. Open.

Currently, the odds for Eubanks to win the U.S. Open are at +5000. He is definitely a long shot, but a fun one to support.

If you want to bet on someone a little more obvious who still has great odds, consider Norwegian Casper Ruud to make it back to the final this year.

The Pick:
Chris Eubanks to win the U.S. Open (+5000)
