Alexander Zverev vs Carlos Alcaraz Prediction and Pick

Sascha Zverev and Carlos Alcaraz have met seven times since their first meeting in 2021, playing in the round of 32 in Acapulco, Mexico. Zverev got the better of the Spanish teen in straight sets on that occasion and did the same again later that year in Vienna.

However, since Alcaraz has started to rise through the ranks and announce himself as one of the best young talents in men’s tennis, he’s had the upper hand. Alcaraz has won three of their five matchups since 2022, with all three coming in straight sets. The latest of those occurred in the U.S. Open in 2023, when the two met in the quarter final.

Just a few months later they’ll meet again at the quarter final stage of a Grand Slam, with Carlos Alcaraz currently the strong favorite. The world #2 saw his form slump later in the 2023 season but is hoping to fire himself back into contention with Novak Djokovic with a strong start in 2024.

Zverev on the other hand, is fighting his way back into the conversation as the best in the world following his devastating ankle injury in 2022. At the time, he was playing the best tennis of his career, ranked #2 in the world and was battling with Rafael Nadal for a place in the French Open final. The German rolled his ankle while trying to track down a Nadal forehand and had to leave the court in a wheelchair, costing him what he felt was destined to be his first Grand Slam title. Finally, he appears to be heading back towards making a run at major tournaments and a win over Carlos Alcaraz would certainly nudge the door open a little further on a final appearance.

He’s battled well at the Australian Open so far, beating both Cameron Norrie and Lukas Klein in closely contested five set matchups, but will need to be a touch more clinical against the Spaniard if he wants to advance.

If Zverev can command the baseline and frustrate Alcaraz here in the quarter final, I could see there being an upset on the cards. With Australian Open tennis betting odds at +375, I at least like the value in going for the underdog in this one. Zverev is no slouch. He’s ranked #6 in the world and if we’re talking about recent form, the two are pretty evenly matched.

The Pick: Alexander Zverev to win (+375)

Novak Djokovic vs Taylor Fritz Odds, Moneyline & Spread – Australian Open Betting Men’s Odds 1/22

(34.5) Over (+100), Under (-138)
Novak Djokovic vs Taylor Fritz Prediction and Pick

Novak Djokovic breezed past Adrian Mannarino in the Australian Open fourth round, beating the Frenchman in straight sets while only giving up three games. Mannarino had played three straight, five set matchups, and perhaps the fatigue of those grueling battles, paired with a fight against the number one tennis player on the planet was a little too much.

Regardless, Djokovic has found his way into the quarter final of the tournament without breaking a sweat. Barring an early set against keen Australian Alexei Popyrin, nobody has come close to testing the Serbian.

In the quarter finals Djokovic will face U.S. tennis’ Taylor Fritz, currently the number one ranked American in the ATP rankings. Fritz overthrew Djokovic's challenger in last year's Australian Open final, beating Stefanos Tsitsipas in four sets in the fourth round. Djokovic goes into the matchup the strong favorite, with unwavering Australian tennis Open betting odds at -1000 for the win.

Fritz is set to face Djokovic for the ninth time, with the Serbian winning all eight meetings so far, including seven of those coming in straight sets. The two played in the quarter final of the U.S. Open in 2023 and Djokovic was by far the superior of the two then. I don’t expect much has changed since, and while I hate to call Taylor Fritz’s fate in such a way, I have Djokovic winning this one in straight sets too.

The Pick: Novak Djokovic to win 3-0 (-138)

Marta Kostyuk vs Coco Gauff Odds, Moneyline & Spread – Australian Open Betting Women’s Odds 1/23

Match Winner: Kostyuk +600, Gauff -1000
1st Set Winner: Kostyuk +375, Gauff -650
2nd Set Winner: Kostyuk +375, Gauff -650
Total Games:
(16.5) Over (-334), Under (+220)
(17.5) Over (-200), Under (+140)
(18.5) Over (-125), Under (-112)
(19.5) Over (+100), Under (-138)
Marta Kostyuk vs Coco Gauff Prediction and Pick

Ukrainian star Marta Kostyuk ended the fairytale run of Maria Timofeeva in the fourth round, beating her 6-2, 6-1 to reach her very first Grand Slam quarter final in the process.

The 21-year-old is starting to make a name for herself early in 2024, having reached the third round at Wimbledon in 2023. She’s hoping to gain some serious momentum in the most promising year of her young career so far, and making a run to the Australian Open quarter final is a great way to start.

She’ll now run into Coco Gauff, currently ranked #4 in the women’s ATP rankings, playing some of the best tennis at the tournament so far. Gauff has dispatched each of her four opponents in straight sets and has allowed just five matches won against her in her last two games combined.

The American never even faced a break point against Magdalena Frech in the fourth round, and once again heads into her matchup with very favorable Australian Open tennis odds at -1000 to win her quarter final draw.

Kostyuk has had some success here before, winning a youth title at the Australian Open in 2017. She could be more of a headache for Gauff than anybody she’s faced so far, so I’m going to go for the over on 17.5 games in this one while expecting Gauff to win it.

The Pick: Over 17.5 Games (-200)

Barbara Krejcikova vs Aryna Sabalenka Odds, Moneyline & Spread – Australian Open Betting Women’s Odds 1/24

Match Winner: Krejcikova +500, Sabalenka -834
1st Set Winner: Krejcikova +325, Sabalenka -550
2nd Set Winner: Krejcikova +325, Sabalenka -550
Total Games:
(17.5) Over (-225), Under (+160)
(18.5) Over (-154), Under (+110)
(19.5) Over (-112), Under (-125)
(20.5) Over (+120), Under (-167)
Barbara Krejcikova vs Aryna Sabalenka Prediction and Pick

At this point I’m running out of superlatives for Aryna Sabalenka, who calmly dispatched Amanda Anisimova in the fourth round in Australia. The current defending champion played through a disjointed matchup, with rain stopping play on multiple occasions and an eventual break being forced while they closed the roof of the Margaret Court Arena.

During the break Sabalenka was joking around with her team behind the scenes, looking completely relaxed with an unrivaled confidence in her ability on the court. Number one ranked Iga Swiatek was knocked out in a shock exit in the third round, and Sabalenka has a chance to reduce the gap between them if she takes the title in Australia for a second year in a row.

Sabalenka hasn’t conceded a single set at either the Brisbane International or the Australian Open so far this year. That presents an uphill battle to say the least for her next challenger.

Barbara Krejcikova has made the quarter final in Australia again, having done so in 2022. So far, she has needed all three sets in three of her four matchups against far lesser opponents, which could prove to be an issue here against the defending champion. She met Sabalenka at the quarter final of the U.S. Open in 2021, losing that one in straight sets.

Sabalenka currently has a 5-1 head-to-head record against the #9 ranked Krejcikova. The level of competition might be improving, but I still don’t believe the challenger here is enough to knock the Belarusian champion off her perch. I’ll take Sabalenka in straight sets again here at the Rod Laver Arena, in what has been one of the best bets for the Australian Open so far during the competition.

The Pick: Aryna Sabalenka to win 2-0 (-225)
