The fourth round of the Australian Open gets under way this weekend, as several of tennis’ greatest men’s and women’s players will take to the hard courts at Melbourne in search of a spot in the tournament’s final eight.

One player we won’t see this weekend is American Ben Shelton, who crashed out of the men’s singles draw with a third-round loss to France’s Adrian Mannarino on Friday. Mannarino will now face No. 1 Novak Djokovic, the tournament favorite, in a fourth-round match. Djokovic, of course, has the best Australian Open tennis betting odds on the men’s side. He is pursuing his 11th career Australian championship, as well as his fifth in six years.

Read on for a closer look at Djokovic’s matchup, as well as three other weekend matches in both the men’s and women’s tournaments, including one that involves the women’s defending champion, Aryna Sabalenka.

Taylor Fritz vs. Stefanos Tsitsipas Prediction and Pick

American Taylor Fritz got off to a slow start in the third round of the 2024 Australian Open tennis tournament by dropping the first set of his match against Hungary’s Fabian Marozsan. After that slight wake-up call, the world’s No. 12 player came charging back and won the next three sets to reach the tournament’s fourth round.

Fritz will now meet Greece’s top player, Stefanos Tsitsipas, who is No. 7 in the world. Tsitsipas was a finalist at last year’s Australian Open, but he has dropped a couple of spots in the rankings since then. Nevertheless, his outstanding performance in Melbourne a year ago remains fresh in fans’ memories.

This fourth-round clash shapes up as a thriller between two players ranked in the world’s top 12. Fritz has only beaten Tsitsipas once in four previous meetings, but that was a straight-sets victory in the pair’s most recent clash at the 2023 Monte Carlo Masters.

Both players have struggled with slow starts at this year’s Australian Open, so the first set could be crucial in terms of setting the tone for this match.

Fritz really found his ace against Marozsan, so he could have the edge there, but overall I prefer the Greek star to prevail here on a stage he knows quite well. Tsitsipas currently has Australian Open tennis betting odds of -138, making him the slight favorite in what should be close match.

The Pick: Stefanos Tsitsipas to win (-138)

Novak Djokovic vs. Adrian Mannarino Odds, Moneyline, Totals and Handicaps – Australian Open Betting Men’s Odds 1/20

Match Winner: Djokovic -10000, Mannarino +1900
1st Set Winner: Djokovic -1200, Mannarino +600
2nd Set Winner: Djokovic -1400, Mannarino +600
Total Games:
(26.5) Over (-225), Under (+160)
(27.5) Over (-167), Under (+120)
(28.5) Over (-118), Under (-118)
(29.5) Over (+110), Under (-154)
Novak Djokovic vs. Adrian Mannarino Prediction and Pick

Novak Djokovic was challenged by Australia’s own Alexei Popyrin in the second round of this year’s Australian Open, but his experience prevailed when he claimed the tiebreaker in the third set. That tiebreaker victory by the world’s No. 1 player from Serbia effectively sank Popyrin, and the match was over in four sets.

Djokovic then eased past world No. 30 Tomas Etcheverry in the tournament’s third round, setting up a fourth-round match against French veteran Adrian Mannarino.

Mannarino has already played three five-set matches at this year’s Australian Open and needed almost five hours to upset American Ben Shelton. That victory over the world’s No. 19 player can only be described as a five-set master class by the Frenchman.

What made his victory over Shelton even more impressive was the fact that Mannarino didn’t look the slightest bit tired at the end of the match, despite having played late into the night and engaging in his 15th set of the tournament -- the maximum number any Australian entrant could have played up to this point.

His ability to play at the top of his game for five sets could work in Mannarino’s favor against Djokovic, but he’ll need to throw the Serbian superstar off balance throughout this match if he wants a shot at even getting to a fifth set, let alone winning it.

Mannarino plays comfortably from the baseline, but Djokovic could really make him work, and this is a real step up in competition level for the Frenchman, even after having played Shelton. I’ll take Djokovic to win in four sets as part of my Australian Open best bets for Round 4, and I expect there will be an intense atmosphere in Rod Laver Arena during this match.

The Pick: Novak Djokovic to win 3-1 (+325)

Amanda Anisimova vs. Aryna Sabalenka Odds, Moneyline, Totals and Handicaps – Australian Open Betting Men’s Odds 1/20

Match Winner: Anisimova +450, Sabalenka -650
1st Set Winner: Anisimova +280, Sabalenka -450
2nd Set Winner: Anisimova +280, Sabalenka -450
Total Games:
(17.5) Over (-225), Under (+160)
(18.5) Over (-167), Under (+120)
(19.5) Over (-125), Under (-112)
(20.5) Over (+110), Under (-154)
Amanda Anisimova vs. Aryna Sabalenka Prediction and Pick

Amanda Anisimova will be the next challenger for women’s tennis superstar and defending Australian Open champion Aryna Sabalenka when the two face each other in the tournament’s fourth round on Sunday.

Anisimova, an American of Russian descent, learned to play tennis while growing up in Florida. Now 22, she is making her return to competitive tennis after having announced early last May that she was taking an indefinite break from the sport.

She took that break because she was battling burnout and struggling with her mental health. She made the decision to step away after losing her first-round match at the Madrid Open.

Now back and seemingly stronger than ever, Anisimova has yet to drop a set at the Australian Open. This is her first appearance at a Grand Slam event since she took her break, and she has looked very impressive on the court.

Unfortunately for Anisimova, her upcoming opponent, Sabalenka, has been annihilating her Australian Open competition while working on a title defense. In the first round, Sabalenka yielded just one game to Germany’s Ella Seidel. In the third round, Sabalenka routed Lesia Tsurenko, the world’s No. 28 player, 6-0, 6-0 in just 52 minutes of playing time.

Sabalenka’s latest victory over Tsurenko is bad news for Anisimova, who will now have to face an extremely confident, aggressive, and fresh-legged defending champion in the fourth round. I have the utmost respect for what the young American Anisimova has done in her return to the main stage, but Sabalenka is playing some of the most dominant tennis the women's game has ever seen, and she remains one of my best bets for the Australian Open title.

The Pick: Aryna Sabalenka to win 2-0 (-200)

Magdalena Frech vs. Coco Gauff Odds, Moneyline, Totals and Handicaps – Australian Open Betting Men’s Odds 1/20

Match Winner: Frech +1200, Coco Gauff -5000
1st Set Winner: Frech +600, Gauff -1400
2nd Set Winner: Frech +700, Gauff -2000
Total Games:
(15.5) Over (-350), Under (+230)
(16.5) Over (-200), Under (+140)
(17.5) Over (-118), Under (-118)
(18.5) Over (+120), Under (-167)
Magdalena Frech vs. Coco Gauff Prediction and Pick

Coco Gauff is in a groove right now, and she reached the fourth round of this year’s Australian Open in style with a straight-sets victory over fellow American Alycia Parks.

During her win over Parks, Gauff registered the fastest serve of any player in the women’s tournament and yielded only two games in her 6-0, 6-2 victory.

If she continues to play her very best tennis, Gauff has a shot at going all the way to the final this year. Her current Australian Open tennis odds to win the entire tournament sit at +250, tying her with defending champion Aryna Sabalenka. So far, Gauff has appeared to be one of the sharpest players at this year’s event, and she will be heavily favored once again in the fourth round.

Her Round 4 opponent is Poland’s Magdalena Frech, who already pulled off one upset by knocking out 16th-ranked Caroline Garcia of France in the tournament’s second round. She won that match in straight sets, taking the second set in a tiebreaker. However, she needed three sets to beat her two other opponents at this year’s event.

French was ranked 70th in the world heading into the tournament, and her performance will no doubt see that ranking go higher post-event. The question is whether or not she is capable of slowing down the freight train that is Coco Gauff right now. Gauff is hungry for another Grand Slam tournament championship following her remarkable performance at last year’s U.S. Open.

I have to back the 19-year-old here. She keeps getting better and better and has yet to drop a set at this tournament. I believe she’ll overpower her Polish challenger in this one and win in straight sets on her way to the final eight.

The Pick: Coco Gauff to win 2-0 (-650)
