The NHL opened this week with an action-packed slate on Monday. On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, games took place throughout the afternoon and into the night. The league is hardly letting up a day later with eight more games scheduled for Tuesday night. Several teams are set to play in the second game of a back-to-back set, which will certainly be an issue. Teams that did not play on Monday, and are therefore better rested, will look to take advantage of fatigued opponents. Let’s dive into what will should be a great Tuesday night for hockey fans.

Best NHL Parlay Picks Tonight - Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2024: 4-Leg Parlay Picks (+556) Colorado Avalanche vs. Ottawa Senators Prediction and Pick

After a 4-3 loss at Montreal on Monday night, the Colorado Avalanche will be going for a bounce-back win on Tuesday at Ottawa.  Wagering on any team playing the second half of a back-to-back set is usually a no-go for me-- especially when the given team is using its backup goaltender. However, I actually like the Avalanche here. After all, what’s not to like about the team scoring the NHL’s second-most goals per game? The Senators, meanwhile, are in some trouble of their own because they had to call up goaltender Mads Sogaard from Belleville of the AHL to make his first start of the season in this game.  Sogaard has played sparingly at the NHL level over the past two years, and even though he has posted good numbers in the AHL, he’ll be going up against a Colorado team that is head-and-shoulders better than anything hockey’s top minor league has to offer. Look for Colorado to take advantage of the home team’s inferior goaltender on Tuesday night and get back on track.

Leg 1 Parlay Pick: Colorado Avalanche ML (-120)
Seattle Kraken vs. New York Rangers Prediction and Pick

The Seattle Kraken will be playing the fifth game of their current six-game road trip on Tuesday night when they go into Madison Square Garden to face the New York Rangers.  The Kraken are coming off a 3-0 loss to the Penguins at Pittsburgh on Monday night, and things are not looking good for them against the same Rangers team that decimated Seattle earlier this season. The Kraken will start backup goaltender Chris Driedger in net on Tuesday night, and given how much trouble Seattle has had scoring this season, all signs point to the Rangers prevailing in this one. Goaltender Igor Shesterkin will be in net for the home team, which should make the night feel even longer for the Kraken players. Look for the Rangers to take care of business at The Garden on Tuesday night.

Leg 2 Parlay Pick: New York Rangers ML (-225)

New York Islanders vs. Winnipeg Jets Prediction and Pick

The Winnipeg Jets are one of the few NHL teams playing on Tuesday night after having a day off on Monday. As a result, the Jets, who are completing a four-game homestand and haven’t been in action since Saturday, will come into this game against the New York Islanders feeling fresh and fully rested.  The Islanders, on the other hand, were shut out 5-0 at Minnesota on Monday night – a game that saw No. 1 goalie Ilya Sorokin pulled after two periods in favor of Ken Appleby, who was making his Isles debut. Appleby gave up two goals on eight shots against the NHL’s eighth-lowest scoring team in relief, so the Islanders could turn back to Sorokin for another start at Winnipeg. Although the Jets are known more for their defense than their scoring ability, they should be able to take advantage of either an inferior goaltender in Appleby or a fatigued one in Sorokin. Look for the Jets to suffocate the Islanders defensively and score just enough goals to get the win.

Leg 3 Parlay Pick: Winnipeg Jets ML (-190)
Arizona Coyotes vs. Calgary Flames Prediction and Pick

The line for Tuesday night’s game between the Arizona Coyotes and Calgary Flames confuses me. Why are the Flames favored by anything less than two goals? Calgary just beat this Coyotes team 6-2 on the road less than a week ago. The Flames, who are really starting to heat up at this point in the season, also had an impressive 3-1 road victory over the Vegas Golden Knights in their most recent game on Saturday night. Perhaps I’m taking the bait here, but the Coyotes are not a good hockey team, and the Flames are significantly better. Backup goalie Dan Vladar will be starting in net for Calgary, which is the only issue I see here. No. 1 goaltender Jacob Markstrom would have made me feel much better about taking the Flames on Tuesday night, but he is injured an unavailable to play. Given Markstrom’s absence, look for the Flames to come out with an aggressive forecheck and get a few goals on the board early. The Flames are one of the more attack-oriented teams in hockey and are averaging just under 30 shots per game. Calgary will remain hot at home.

Leg 4 Parlay Pick: Calgary Flames ML (-160)
