Best NHL Player-Prop Bets Tonight: Tuesday, January 16, 2024Igor Shesterkin New York Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin will be in net at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night as his team looks to make it two wins in a row after a uncharacteristic losing spell. Shesterkin and the Blueshirts should have no trouble against an inferior Seattle Kraken team that trails them in every statistical category. I expect Shesterkin to lock down the net as he always does, so I’m focused on his saves for Tuesday night. My only concern is whether or not the Kraken can fire enough shots for Shesterkin to exceed his prop total. The Rangers do a good job at limiting the number of shots that get through to their goalies this season, but since Seattle is playing on the second leg of a back-to-back, I suspect the Kraken will be willing to take more risks. Seattle averages 29.3 shots per game, and if the Kraken can get 26 to 28, Shesterkin will be able to exceed this prop with no problem.

The Pick: Igor Shesterkin over 24.5 saves (-125)
Nathan MacKinnon The Colorado Avalanche, coming off a 4-3 loss at Montreal, will be playing the second game of a back-to-back set on Tuesday. There’s no question that the Avs will want to generate more scoring chances and will need a big performance out of their offensive stars to lead the way. Ottawa is starting Mads Sogaard in goal, and he has far more AHL experience than NHL experience. That sort of a netminder is just what the doctor ordered for this Avalanche team. Colorado center Nathan MacKinnon, one of the NHL’s truly elite players, already has 23 goals this season. Facing an AHL goalie like Sogaard -- even with limited shots -- MacKinnon should be able to find the back of the net. He has had at least five shots on goal in each of his last three games, and that sort of total should be more than enough for him to beat Sogaard at least once on Tuesday night.

The Pick: Nathan MacKinnon anytime goalscorer (-134)
Adrian Kempe Los Angeles right wing Adrian Kempe has been the Kings’ second-highest scorer this season, and his team will likely lean on him Tuesday night in its Western Conference showdown with the Dallas Stars. This is the sort of game in which one or two mistakes could completely change the outcome, so look for the Kings to rely on Kempe, who is not known for making such mistakes. In what will likely be a low-scoring affair, give me Kempe to find the back of the net in Dallas.

The Pick: Adrian Kempe anytime goalscorer (+162)
Stuart Skinner Goaltender Stuart Skinner will get the start in net for the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday night -– going up against a lethal Toronto Maple Leafs offense. With so much scoring talent on both rosters, look for the top-six forwards on both teams to steal the show -– forcing the goaltenders to step up their play in order to win. The Oilers do a great job at limiting opposing skaters’ shots, and Skinner is helped by the players in front of him who allow the NHL’s fourth-fewest shots on goal per game.  Despite that impressive stat, the Maple Leafs’ wealth of talent will make it hard for the Oilers in the defensive zone -– putting more pressure on Edmonton’s goalie. Skinner, who has started 28 of Edmonton’s 39 games, has a .903 save percentage this season. If the Maple Leafs can keep him busy for  all three periods, expect to see Skinner do his job in protecting the net while exceeding his saves prop.

The Pick: Stuart Skinner over 26.5 saves (-118)
