The football season returns in a matter of days, and we’re preparing for it with NFL futures bets for the entire NFC, including projected NFC East, NFC North, NFC West  division champions and NFC championship odds for the coming season. We will also examine some NFL betting odds and uncover a couple of sleeper picks to make a run in the postseason.

The Eagles emerged as the frontrunners last season and came agonizingly close to claiming a win in the Super Bowl against Patrick Mahomes, Chris Jones, Rashee Rice and the Kansas City Chiefs. Philadelphia quarterback Jalen Hurts played incredibly well on the biggest stage and was rewarded with a mammoth contract from the Eagles during the offseason.

Let’s get into some NFC South odds as we make our picks for the division.

Favorites to win NFC South Division

The conference picture gets a little complex when it comes to the NFC South, because there are question marks about every team, particularly at quarterback. How good are the Saints going to be with Derek Carr? Is Desmond Ridder good enough to lead the Atlanta Falcons? What’s Bryce Young’s rookie season going to look like? And are the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the verge of tearing it all down following their Super Bowl success with Tom Brady?

The Saints have the best odds to win the NFC South, but that could be purely because the three other franchises have so many unknowns. There’s a lot to like about the way Carolina has constructed its roster, but the Panthers still don’t have the same expectations as the Saints do right now.

2023-24 NFC South Predictions and Best Bets

The New Orleans Saints have limped into a few quarterback situations since the retirement of Drew Brees, and none of them have really paid off. Now, with the start of the 2023 NFL season, they’ll try a new quarterback again, only this time having made a serious long-term commitment to Derek Carr.

Carr was looking for a new place to call home after falling out with the Raiders, and he landed on a great roster down in Louisiana. The Saints have an exceptional talent in wide receiver Chris Olave, and if Michael Thomas can also stay healthy, New Orleans will have an outstanding pass-catching duo.

In the backfield, even though Alvin Kamara will miss the first three games due to a suspension, the Saints still look dangerous. Kamara will have cover from Jamaal Williams, who led the NFL in touchdowns with Detroit last season, and rookie Kendre Miller, who starred for TCU during its historic run to the national championship game last season.

At plus odds, I can’t ignore the Saints here. They have a very experienced defense with a lot of veterans in the ranks, and it's a great situation for Derek Carr to go out and push for the playoffs. The Saints’ odds to win the NFC South are +120, and considering the three other teams they’re up against, that looks good to me.

The Pick: New Orleans Saints to win the NFC South (+120)

Of the remaining teams in the NFC South, the Carolina Panthers are my favorite sleeper pick.

Sure, it’s a tall order for rookie Bryce Young to come out and pull off a great season that results in his team winning the division, but Carolina’s odds to win the NFC South are currently +350, and I much prefer them over the Atlanta Falcons.

The Panthers’ roster construction has been superb. They have added proven veterans in receiver Adam Thielen, running back Miles Sanders, and tight end Hayden Hurst. There’s also safety Vonn Bell, who was exceptional for the Cincinnati Bengals last season.

The Carolina additions seem to perfectly blend veteran talent with young guys looking to make a difference, and they will only add to a roster that already has a solid offensive line and a great defense.

Frank Reich is a great coach and one of the best any team could put in charge of its new franchise quarterback. This is a good football team, and if Bryce Young figures it out in a hurry, there’s no reason the Panthers can’t win nine or 10 games and be in the division-title conversation. They’re one of the more underrated NFC South teams right now, and who doesn’t love betting on the first overall pick?
