Football is finally back, and that means it’s time to make our picks and predictions for the 2023-24 NFL season. We’re going to run through the AFC North, AFC South, AFC West division champions and NFC championship odds and break down the favorites, the underdogs, and some teams that could surprise fans this season.

Kansas City has dominated the AFC since the Patrick Mahomes era got underway. The superstar quarterback has made it to every single AFC Championship game since he took over as the Chiefs’ starter. Teams such as the Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals are hot on Kansas City’s heels and pose some of the biggest threats the Chiefs’ title defense this coming season.

Let’s dive into the AFC East and make some predictions -- choosing a favorite for the division. We will look at NFL betting odds and the hottest NFL betting trends across the conference. Let’s begin with the AFC East.

Favorites to win AFC East Division

The Buffalo Bills are favored to win the AFC East, having taken over as the division’s most dominant team in recent years. Buffalo has topped the AFC East for three years in a row now, following an insane run of dominance by Tom Brady and the New England Patriots.

The Patriots topped the division every year from 2009 to 2019, and only surrendered first place twice during the 20-plus years that Brady played for the franchise.

The Miami Dolphins haven’t won the division since 2008, and the Jets haven’t won it since 2003, although they now have a far better chance at doing so with Aaron Rodgers in town.

2023-24 AFC East Predictions and Best Bets

The New York Jets did significant work in the offseason to close the gap on some of the AFC’s most powerful teams. The conference is a nightmare for its weakest teams right now. Quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes of the Chiefs, Cincinnati’s Joe Burrow, and Buffalo’s Josh Allen are all playing at an extremely high level. Jacksonville’s Trevor Lawrence, Baltimore’s Lamar Jackson, Miami’s Tua Tagovailoa, the Chargers’ Justin Herbert, and Denver’s Russell Wilson are also outstanding quarterbacks who will be fighting for a playoff spot with their respective teams.

The Jets needed to upgrade at quarterback to compete, and bringing in Aaron Rodgers allows Zach Wilson to settle in and learn from Rodgers over what could be the next two or three years.

Rodgers puts the Jets in the division-title conversation. With a great defense, weapons everywhere, and a well-assembled coaching staff, New York’s odds to win the AFC East look pretty good.

The Pick: New York Jets to win the AFC East (+220)

While the Bills, Jets, and Dolphins appear to be on the rise, the Patriots’ odds of winning the AFC East are pretty slim. Even with a strong defense, the talent level of New England’s roster pales in comparison to that of the three other AFC East teams.

Those three teams just have far better offensive weapons. The Bills have Stefon Diggs and rookie tight end Dalton Kincaid. The Jets have an arsenal that includes Garrett Wilson, Allen Lazard, Breece Hall, Corey Davis, Mecole Hardman, Randall Cobb, and others. The Dolphins showcase a set of fast and potent weapons, highlighted by the wide receiver duo of Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, along with Braxton Berrios, Raheem Mostert, and rookie De’Von Achane. It’s clear that all three teams have better quarterbacks, and all are capable of making a run when healthy

Those three teams just look far stronger than the Patriots, who still don’t seem sure about quarterback Mac Jones. This will be a telling year for the future of the New England Patriots, who are my pick to finish at the bottom of the AFC East.

The Pick: New England Patriots to finish fourth in the AFC East (-120)
