Jazz vs. Cavaliers Predictions and Best Bets

In the NBA, when a player who was traded goes up against his former team, it is known as an alumni game. Tonight, Collin Sexton and Lauri Markkanen have another alumni game against Cleveland, and the same goes for Donovan Mitchell as he plays against the Jazz.

It is worth mentioning that this trade has not really worked out for either team. Mitchell’s Cavs went out in the first round against the Knicks in last year’s playoffs, and he is now being forced to play out of position at point guard because Darius Garland has a broken jaw. Also, he will not have Evan Mobley playing alongside him as Mobley is out indefinitely with a left knee injury that requires surgery.

As for the Jazz, Markkanen is coming off a Most Improved Player season, but he will be without starting point guard Jordan Clarkson as he is sidelined with a thigh injury. Guard Keyonte George has a foot injury and center Omer Yurtseven is dealing with a non-COVID illness. So it will be Sexton making his fifth straight start.

The Cavs are not only without Garland and Mobley, but also will be missing Ricky Rubio (mental health break) and Ty Jerome (sprained right ankle).

The injury bug has hit these two teams hard, but injuries are part of the game. Cleveland has managed to win two straight, defeating the Hawks and Rockets, while the Jazz have won three of four but now embark on a five-game road trip.

So these are the Jazz and Cavaliers B-Teams to a degree, and we shall see how the replacements fare in their increased roles. It most definitely makes for an intriguing online sports wagering challenge.

Best NBA Same Game Parlay Picks Today for Jazz vs. Cavaliers - 4 Legs Parlay Picks (+25000)

Leg-1 SGP Pick: Donovan Mitchell: 10+ assists (+400)

“Spida” Mitchell has attempted 94 shots over the past four games as a one-man playmaking show, and he had one double-digit assist game over that time, getting 13 against Atlanta. He scored 37 against Houston last time out, and his minutes totals the past four games have been 35, 40, 41 and 45 while attempting 41 3-pointers. So, yeah, the Cavs are leaning on him. This is reflected in his lines, and the one that seems most reachable at the best price is 10+ assists. He will need his supporting cast to hit shots off his passes, but the Cavs have scored 127 and 135 in the past two games, so this is achievable at an enticing price.

The Pick: Donovan Mitchell to record at least 10 assists (+400)

Leg-2 SGP Pick: Max Strus 5+ assists (+120)

The free agent signee from the Miami Heat has not exactly been a marksman from 3-point range, going 1-for-4, 1-for-8 and 3-for 9 in the last three games. He is playing 34.6 minutes per game, 6.2 more than he did for the Heat last season, and he is going to have to continue to step up his game – especially his shooting accuracy, if the Cavs want to remain a top 6 team in the East, which they are now, tied with the Miami Heat. Strus has had at least five assists in five of the past 11 games, as he is a player that does a little of everything but not a ton of anything. With his 3-point shooting off lately, and with new starters Dean Wade and Isaac Okoro not on the Betway board, this short odds pick serves as our parlay booster.

The Pick: Max Strus to have at last five assists (+120)

Leg-3 SGP Pick: Collin Sexton to score 30+ points (+425)

Check out these shot attempt numbers for Sexton over the last four games: 18, 17, 18 and 17. He has scored 26, 27, 28 and 27 in those four games and is averaging 21.6 points per game this month, which began with him as a backup. If coach Will Hardy gets Sexton’s minutes into the 40s (his high over those past four games is 35), then 30 points should be achievable. When your team is desperate for a win and you are playing an alumni game, you can give a little extra, both production-wise and motivation-wise.

The Pick: Collin Sexton to score 30 or more points (+425)

Leg-4 SGP Pick: Simone Fontecchio 2+ steals (+450)

The Italian kid is the only other Utah player listed on the Betway board, and he is coming off two horrific offensive games. Prior to that, he went 5-for-5 on 3s against Portland and scored 24 points, which leads up to explain that he has a leaky faucet game (He runs hot and cold, which translates in Italian to “corre caldo e freddo.” Fontecchio did have two steals last game vs. the Nets when he scored only 2 points, and he is known as a smart player who plays good anticipatory defense. This means he should be able to snag two of the telegraphed passes from Mitchell, who is playing out of position. This kid’s offensive production if too spotty to gamble on, and this is an enticing price.

The Pick: Simone Fontecchio to record at least 2 steals (+450)

Putting those four picks together produces a 4-leg Same Game Parlay with odds of +25000, meaning a $10 wager would return a nifty $2,500. You need four guys to overachieve just a little bit each, but achieving the numbers cited above is not all that unlikely given the injury situation in this game, and sometimes you roll the dice on a +25000 pick.
