UFC 292 Fight Card: Schedule, Predictions, Odds & Best Bets

UFC 292 is finally here with a highly anticipated title fight between Aljamain Sterling and “Suga” Sean O’Malley headlining the main card.

Aljamain Sterling now has three title defenses since he claimed the bantamweight championship belt via disqualification of Petr Yan. That includes a rematch against Yan that ended in a split-decision victory.

Since then, Sterling has KO’d T.J. Dillashaw and beaten Henry Cejudo, also by split decision. He will now face one of the most electric fighters in the division, since Sean O’Malley is 16-1 in his professional MMA career and riding a four-fight win streak (a span that also included a no-contest against Pedro Munhoz).

The co-main event on Saturday night is a separate title fight in which Zhang Weili will defend her strawweight belt against Amanda Lemos. It’s one of the most intriguing women’s UFC fights in recent memory, since Lemos is now 13-2-1 in her MMA career and 7-1 in the UFC.

Let’s take a closer look at these upcoming UFC fights and the UFC card odds for both the main event and co-main event on Saturday night.

Aljamain Sterling vs. Sean O’Malley Prediction and Pick

If these fighters' recent bouts are anything to go by, this should be a phenomenal spectacle.

Aljamain Sterling comes into this one having successfully defended his title for a third time against Henry Cejudo in May, and he’s back fighting again just three months later.

The Cejudo fight was brilliant from start to finish. Sterling set the tone with a display of striking that isn’t always appreciated when people discuss his fighting style. The champ seems to be getting better as his title reign goes on, and he has proven his doubters wrong on multiple occasions.

The disappointing nature of how Aljamain won his title belt is well-documented, since Petr Yan was disqualified for landing an illegal strike. That brought a lot of negativity Sterling’s way, and his critics have been wishing for his demise ever since.

Unfortunately for those doubters, Sterling continues to win. He has proven himself both as a stand-up striker and a specialist on the ground.

Suga Sean defended himself well against Yan’s wrestling in another sensational fight that went the distance. A win over Aljamain Sterling to claim the title would almost certainly set up a rematch of his fight vs. Yan -- only this time with the belt at stake.

O’Malley is 16-1, and his only loss in professional MMA came when he injured himself against Chito Vera and tried to struggle through the fight on a bad ankle.

Despite his impressive record, O’Malley is the underdog in this fight against Sterling – a fight he has been chasing for quite some time. After Sterling’s win at UFC 288, O’Malley entered the octagon for a face-off with the champion during his post-fight interview. Clearly, there’s some tension between the two, and it could explode on Saturday night with the UFC airing on ESPN.

We’ll see how Sterling approaches this fight. He has an advantage with his ground game but has been successful with his striking more recently, too. Suga won’t want the fight to go to the ground, so he needs to be very tactical with his approach in what will be his first title shot in the UFC.

Suga has been waiting for this moment for a very long time, and my UFC Saturday night prediction has him completing his mission.

While I can see a path for Aljamain to win this one, likely via submission, I can’t help but have tremendous respect for Sean O’Malley’s record and success in the UFC. He can damage his opponents in a variety of ways with dangerous leg kicks and serious speed as a striker. If he can control the fight in the big moments and press Sterling in a striking matchup, I’ll take the underdog to claim the belt.

The Pick: Sean O’Malley to win (+200)

Weili Zhang vs. Amanda Lemos Prediction and Picks

Amanda Lemos is 7-1 in the UFC, but she has yet to fight anybody in the division who is at Zhang Weili’s current level. Lemos' only loss came against Jessica Andrade, one of the division's most experienced fighters. That defeat knocked Lemos down in the rankings at the time.

Since then, she has defeated both Michelle Waterson-Gomez and Marina Rodriguez in re-establishing herself in the women’s UFC strawweight division. She now gets a shot at the title, but it won’t be easy for her because Zhang Weili’s last two fights have been quite something.

Weili had stormed through the UFC since making her debut in 2018, but she fell flat when kicked in the head by Rose Namajunas with barely a minute gone in the first round. She then took a second shot at Rose in an effort to reclaim her title, but lost by split decision in a brawl at UFC 268.

Since then, Weili’s bounce-back has been special. She KO’d and subsequently sent Joanna Jedrzejczyk into retirement with a powerful spinning back fist. She followed that victory up with a rear-naked choke submission against Carla Esparza in November 2022.

Weili will be making the first defense of her second title against Lemos and comes into this fight as a strong favorite.

There are just so many ways that Zhang Weili can hurt her opponent, as she proved against Esparza. Before the submission, she was significantly superior with her striking. She has a wide range of dangerous options in her repertoire that can put her opponents on the mat.

Amanda Lemos is no slouch, but Weili is at her very peak right now, and she’s going to be extremely difficult to stop. Lemos likely has a slight advantage on the ground, but that means trying to shoot and take down Weili, which is easier said than done.

I have Weili winning this one by KO/TKO in my second UFC pick for Saturday. I think the fight will likely last at least three rounds with some back-and-forth on the ground before Weili closes the door.

The Pick: Zhang Weili to win by KO/TKO (+150)
