Last year's relegation battle in La Liga was really tight, with just two points between the team that finished in 14th place and the team that got relegated in 18th. It came down to the final day of the season, and Valladolid’s 0-0 draw with Getafe sent them down.

Had Valladolid won that game, it would have been Getafe going down themselves, so that’s just how close it was in Week 38.

La Liga Relegation Predictions and Best Bets

This season, Getafe are among the strongest odds for relegation from La Liga again, with a +300 looking like good value compared to some of the other more obvious options.

Two wins in the final four games of the year pulled them from the clutches of relegation last season, but only by the skin of their teeth. As far as La Liga futures go, Getafe are definitely in the conversation to head down.

José Bordalás took over for the final seven games of the season and did a fine job in turning things around just in time, but this year presents a new challenge, and the squad doesn’t seem to have improved enough to avoid the fate of relegation this time around.

The Pick: Getafe +300

Just as with La Liga title odds, the favorite for relegation is the favorite for a reason.

Las Palmas have the most glaring odds to be relegated from La Liga, having been promoted in second place last season from the second division.

Despite finishing second in the league, they only managed to score 49 goals in 42 games and that rings some alarm bells for me. Coming back into the top flight already knowing you have some problems finding the back of the net doesn’t exactly spell a safe season and a mid-table finish.

The Spanish side has tried to address the issue by signing strikers Sandro Ramirez and Munir El Haddadi, but I’m not convinced that that's enough talent to keep them up.

The Pick: Las Palmas +100
