Atletico Madrid are playing away this weekend against Almeria, who are yet to win a game this season.

Atletico is a strong favorite to win this game, with Almeria currently bottom of the table with just eight points from their first 25 games. They’ve conceded a league high 52 goals so far this campaign, and come into this one having tied their last two.

The visiting Atletico are currently fourth in the league table and just three points behind Barcelona. They’re 11 points off of Real Madrid, and will need a strong run the rest of the way if they hope to catch them.

Atletico Madrid vs Almeria history strongly favors the visitors, with Atletico winning five of their seven matchups, with one draw between the two. Almeria’s only win was a 2-0 victory in February 2014.

I’m breaking down the game today, with free soccer picks for the matchup and a La Liga same game parlay to finish.

Almeria’s season has been a long and troubled one, with their fight for survival currently looking rather bleak.

Last season they survived on the very last day of the La Liga campaign, with former manager Rubi’s last action as the club's manager rescuing them from relegation. They appointed Vicente Moreno to replace him for the 2023-2024 season, but he was fired after just seven games having failed to win a single match.

His replacement Gaizka Garitano, signed a contract until 2025, but he is also yet to secure a win with the team.

Some of Almeria’s losses have been devastatingly unlucky, managing to create a bunch of chances against some of the league's best clubs, and scoring two goals in games against the likes of Real Madrid, Girona and Barcelona. They lost all three of those games.

They were 2-0 up against Real Madrid in late January too, scoring twice in the first half to gain an edge. Madrid eventually pulled level, and then Dani Carvajal scored the winner for the league leaders in the 9th minute of stoppage time.

For all their efforts, Almeria remain winless.

This weekend their challengers Atletico Madrid will be hoping to secure another three points, having beaten Almeria 2-1 back in December. In that matchup, Atletico took an early 2-0 lead, and the visitors couldn’t fight their way back into the game, despite taking more shots (19), and having more shots on target (6).

Unfortunately for Almeria, Atletico found their finest shooting form just last weekend with a 5-0 destruction of Las Palmas. They were clinical throughout, and applied an intense pressure on Las Palmas’ defense that they were unable to handle.

Both Antoine Griezmann and Memphis Depay were on the bench to start that game too, and Diego Simeone will be careful with his squad selection this weekend with the Copa Del Rey semifinal second leg coming up mid-week.

Atletico pressed high, winning the ball high up the pitch and creating chances and goals out of it on multiple occasions. Whether they play a similar style against Almeria is yet to be determined, but it was a formula that certainly worked out.

Simeone’s side have several players who can put away chances in front of goal. Alvaro Morata has 18 on the season, while Antoine Griezmann is close behind with 16 of his own. Marcus Llorente and Angel Correa both had two in last weekend's 5-0 win, with Memphis Depay scoring the 5th off the bench.

Almeria vs Atletico Madrid Line-ups & Injuries

Atletico have been without winger Thomas Lemar for the majority of this season, having lost him to an achilles injury in September. He is expected for a return in mid-March.

Ibrahima Kone is the only name on the Almeria injury report, with the striker having been out since October with an ankle injury.

Almeria vs Atletico Madrid Prediction, Picks and Betting Tips

Atletico Madrid 3-Way Handicap

The first of my La Liga prop bets today for this one is the three-way handicap.

Atletico’s form in front of goal last weekend paired with the struggles of Almeria have me expecting goals. I think with the clinical quality of Diego Simeone’s side in front of goal, Atletico could pull away in this one.

I talked earlier about Almeria scoring goals against big teams, which they have been capable of doing, but they also concede freely against those teams and end up losing games.

I have Atletico scoring at least three in my La Liga predictions, while winning against a -1 handicap.

The Pick: Atletico Madrid -1 (+190)

Total Goals

Almeria might be bottom of the table, but they play fearlessly against the teams at the top. At this point, they have nothing to lose, and previous results against title contenders have been astonishing.

They lost 5-2 to Girona, and 3-2 against both Barcelona and Real Madrid. They’re capable of scoring, but do allow goals themselves too, more than any other team in La Liga in fact.

Five of their last eight league games have featured at least four goals, so I’m adding the over on 3.5 to my La Liga betting tips today. This is an in-form Atletico attack against a team that won’t lie down at the bottom of the table.

The Pick: Over 3.5 Goals (+187)

Alvaro Morata

Alvaro Morata has scored 13 goals in 22 matches so far this season in the La Liga. He has often gotten lost between defenders in the box and is showing a pure ability to finish chances as the front man for Simeone’s side.

Almeria have struggled with set pieces in general, which could be a great opportunity for Morata to get on the scoresheet, but he’s just as dangerous as a finisher in Atletico’s stylish build up play.

I believe he finds the net at least once here and the Spaniard scoring is one of my top La Liga prop bets today for the weekend's slate. The last time Atletico scored three or more in a match in which he was playing, he scored all three.
