The Winnipeg Jets and the Philadelphia Flyers will meet for the second time this season on Thursday night where the Jets will look to avenge a January loss to Philadelphia. Both teams are on their second game after the All-Star break with Winnipeg coming into this matchup off of a loss and Philadelphia coming into this matchup off of a win. With both teams in third place of their respective divisions, a win on Thursday night could go a long way as we enter the back half of the season.

These two teams met less than a month ago across the border in Winnipeg where the Philadelphia Flyers played spoiler, winning 2-0 in a game where they controlled the puck and the game from start to finish. The Flyers have really turned a corner this season, with their defense being their backbone. In a game that will be a defensive battle give me the Flyers on their home ice to come out on top again. Neither of these teams have been consistent on the offensive side and their defense has kept each of these teams in games, but the Flyers offense has looked better as of late.

If you like defensive hockey games, then the Jets and the Flyers will be your game to watch on Thursday night. Drawing the lowest total on Thursday night’s slate, along with the Vegas Golden Knights and the Arizona Coyotes, this total for Winnipeg and Philadelphia is very generous. The Jets allow the fewest goals per game to opposing offenses and both teams rank within the top 10 in shots allowed to opposing skaters, with Philadelphia coming in at eighth and Winnipeg at fourth. While their offense has yet to consistently click, the Flyers have remained aggressive as they have the most shots per game in the NHL. Yes, more than the Colorado Avalanche, Vancouver Canucks, Dallas Stars and all of the other offenses that rank higher than them. This is why I like goaltender Laurent Brossoit to have a big game for Winnipeg on Thursday night. He’s been great this season with a 7-3-2 record and a .926 save percentage. Look for Brossoit to weather the storm in Philadelphia on Thursday night and make it very difficult for the Flyers to score.
