With the 2023-24 NHL season winding down to just a few games left, this Eastern Confrence showdown between the Philadelphia Flyers and the New York Rangers will be a pivotal one as it comes with playoff implications for both. The Rangers have owned the regular season series winning all three of the first meetings. Can the Flyers steal the final one? Or will the Rangers come out on top again?

Flyers vs Rangers Preview

The Philadelphia Flyers and the New York Rangers will meet for the fourth time this season and they’ll be some high stakes on the line. The Rangers have already secured a playoff spot and are holding a three point lead over the Carolina Hurricanes in the Metropolitan division. While the Flyers are two points out of the second wild card berth in the Eastern Conference.

Flyers vs Rangers Predictions and Picks

Just when we thought the Philadelphia Flyers were turning a corner and heading to the playoffs for the first time since 2019, they go ahead and lose nine of their last 10 games and put themselves on the outside looking in on the playoffs. With their backs against the wall and in a must-win scenario they should bring their best hockey on Thursday night but it won’t be enough. The New York Rangers will have backup goaltender Jonathan Quick in goal and he’s no ordinary backup as he’s still putting up starter numbers with a .913 save percentage and an 18-5-2 record. A win on Thursday night keeps the Rangers in full control of the Metropolitan division and I see no reason why that won’t be the outcome. The Flyers are spiralling out of control as their stout defense who would suffocate opposing offenses by not allowing them a ton of shots on goal has quickly changed over these past 10 games as opposing skaters are teeing off on the Flyers goaltenders. Samuel Ersson will get the start in goal for the Flyers on Thursday night and he’s been putrid to watch lately as he’s allowed five or more goals in three out of his last four starts. The Flyers had a good run this season but dropping nine of your last 10 games at the end of the season is never a recipe for success. The Rangers offense is too good and the goaltending skill of Quick is so undervalued here. The Rangers get this done in regulation as the Flyers will be no test for Quick and the Rangers offense is too much for this Flyers struggling defense to handle.

The Pick: New York Rangers Win/Draw/Win (-135)

In their first two meetings this season the under hit in both games and didn’t even come close to the pregame total. I expect the same result in this one though the Flyers defense scares me with the play they’ve shown recently as the Rangers could easily score 5-6 goals in this one just like they did in their third meeting a few games ago and tip the scales to the over rather quickly. With the way Jonathan Quick has played in goal this season I don’t see the Flyers scoring anymore than two goals in this game and two goals I think is steep as I see Philadelphia scoring a goal in this game and that’s it. Despite their massive decline in defense as of late the Flyers still allow the second fewest shots on goal to opposing skaters this season and while that number has certainly increased over their recent skid I do think they can turn that problem around. If the Flyers can slow the Rangers down then this total could go under rather easily. I’m definitely teeter tottering here on which side to choose for this total but knowing that the Flyers offense will struggle against the Rangers defense and against Quick makes me lean to the under here.

The Pick: Under 6.5 (-125)

Best Same Game Parlay NHL bets today for Flyers vs Rangers: 3-Leg Parlay Pick (+330)

Money Line Alright we’re going back to the well and starting our same game parlay with a pick on the money line. Like I said above, I like the Rangers to handle business and take this game in regulation. But to be safe we’ll take the Rangers on the money line here as our first leg.

Leg-1 SGP Pick: New York Rangers ML (-210)

New York Rangers Total Goals The defensive struggles of the Philadelphia Flyers isn’t a fluke as they’ve consistently been struggling for the past month or so and they’re allowing their goaltenders to get exposed. Samuel Ersson will get the start in net on Thursday night and Ersson has allowed five or more goals in three out of his last four starts. Look for the Rangers sixth ranked offense to exploit Ersson and this Flyers defense as New York scores five or more in this one. If Montreal and Columbus can score five or more against the Flyers so can the Rangers.

Leg-2 SGP Pick: NY Rangers Goals over 4.5 (+200)

1st Period This is just to add a little more flavor to this same game parlay as we’re going to take the Rangers to win the first period. New York is the superior team here and should show it on Thursday night. In the first meeting between these two the Rangers led 2-0 after the first period and the way that the Flyers defense has played lately has me thinking that this one is going to get out of hand early. The Flyers are 0-6 in their last six games in the first period and it came against the Montreal Canadiens (twice), Chicago Blackhawks, New York Islanders, Buffalo Sabres and the Columbus Blue Jackets. Give me the Rangers to win the first period and never look back in this game.

Leg-3 SGP Pick: New York Rangers 1st Period ML (+110)
