Top NFL Player-Prop Bets for Week 9

Best Texans vs. Buccaneers Player-Prop Bets

Rachaad White

I really like what I’ve seen from Tampa Bay running back Rachaad White over the past couple of weeks, although I’m referring more to his receiving ability than his rushing talent.

Houston currently ranks 29th in the NFL when it comes to yards allowed to opposing running backs. A significant portion of this statistic is a result of the Texans allowing tailbacks an average of five receptions and over 37 receiving yards per game.

White’s volume as a pass-catcher has increased dramatically over the past couple of weeks. Although his rushing attempts have decreased, he has made up for that by catching a total of 13 passes in his last two games, accumulating a total of 135 yards and maintaining an impressive average of more than 10 yards per catch.

White is proving that he can find available space and pick up first-down yardage. I don’t expect to see Tampa Bay shy away from having him do that against Houston.

Having White as a receiving option is a get-out-of-jail-free card for quarterback Baker Mayfield, and I like the 27.5 receiving-yardage line for him going into Sunday's game.

The Pick: Rachaad White Over 27.5 Receiving Yards (-115)

Best Eagles vs. Cowboys Player-Prop Bets

Jalen Hurts

I feel like we’re going to see a high-scoring game between the Eagles and their NFC East rivals from Dallas on Sunday afternoon. Philadelphia’s secondary has been a little banged-up, while the Cowboys are surrendering more yardage without their primary cover corner in Trevon Diggs.

Diggs' season-ending injury was a huge blow to defensive coordinator Dan Quinn and his Cowboys defense, but Dallas still has lot of talented players making big plays on the back end. DaRon Bland, a 2022 fifth-round draft pick, has four interceptions this season and has already played very well in coverage against some good teams.

Dallas held New England quarterback Mac Jones to 150 passing yards and intercepted him twice. The Cowboys also limited the Chargers’ Justin Herbert to 227 yards, and most recently allowed the Rams’ Matt Stafford only 162 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Bland took that pick to the house in his team’s 43-20 win last Sunday.

With all that in mind, Eagles QB Jalen Hurts’ passing line has been set at 247.5 yards. That’s two yards lower than what’s expected of Dallas’ Dak Prescott, and I think it’s simply too low for Hurts.

This is a good Dallas Cowboys defense, but Hurts has proven over the last six weeks that he is able to get at least half of this line’s yardage from star receiver A.J. Brown alone. Brown has caught passes for more than 100 yards in six games, and he is now the NFL’s second-ranked wide receiver. His performances have supported Hurts’ numbers in a major way, and I don’t expect that to change on Sunday even though Dallas has a decent defense.

Hurts has thrown for at least 270 yards in each of his last six games, including three times in which he cleared 300 yards. He has had at least 40 drop-backs in five of those games, indicating a significant passing volume. I believe he will comfortably surpass the 247.5-yard mark.

The Pick: Jalen Hurts Over 247.5 Passing Yards (-115)

Best Panthers vs. Colts Player-Prop Bets

Josh Downs

I loved Indianapolis rookie wide receiver Josh Downs when he was coming out of North Carolina. I thought he offered the Colts exceptional value as a third-round pick. He can do many of the same things as Minnesota Vikings first-rounder Jordan Addison but cost his team far less draft capital.

Once he landed in Indianapolis, I felt even better about Downs. Michael Pittman has been the most productive Colts receiver this season, but nobody else on this team had really established himself as a consistent pass-catcher at high volume.

Josh Downs is now that guy. He has had a minimum of five catches in each of his last four games and his yards-per-catch numbers are off the charts. The former Tar Heel had 17 yards per catch against the Rams, 16.2 against Tennessee, a season-high 25 against the Browns two weeks ago, and 10.3 in a high-volume day last weekend against the New Orleans Saints.

Those last two games, in particular, have stood out for me. Cleveland’s defense is considered one of the best in football this year, yet Downs went out and posted five catches for 125 receiving yards and a touchdown against the Browns. The following week, Downs faced another strong defense with the Saints in town, yet he still managed to catch seven passes for 72 yards.

This kid is a gamer. He’s a QB-friendly wide receiver who is consistently winning over the middle of the field. He finds soft spots in zone coverage, which is making life easy for Colts QB Gardner Minshew, and I expect more of the same from him in this week's matchup against Carolina.

The Pick: Josh Downs Over 50.5 Receiving Yards (-115)

Best Chiefs vs. Dolphins Player-Prop Bets

Tyreek Hill

You can bet that Miami wide receiver Tyreek Hill has had this game circled on his calendar for a long time. He finally gets to face his former team, the Kansas City Chiefs, and while it might not be at Arrowhead as originally planned, it’s still a huge opportunity for the NFL’s No. 1 receiver to make a statement.

Hill has already gone over 1,000 receiving yards this season even though the Dolphins have only played eight games. He averages 127 receiving yards per game and has cleared 110 in three of his last four starts.

Miami is finding ways to get Hill wide open no matter what the defense does. Even when the Eagles did a great job of slowing him down in their 31-17 win a couple of weeks ago, Hill still caught 11 passes for 88 yards.

Nobody is playing football like Tyreek Hill is right now, and given how the Miami Dolphins move him around, set him in motion, and show the defense a huge variety of different looks, it’s extremely difficult for opponents to prepare for him.

There’s no real animosity between Hill and the Chiefs. He still loves those guys and built a legacy for himself in Kansas City, but I expect to see him remind them just how good he is come Sunday in Germany.

The Pick: Tyreek Hill Over 91.5 Receiving Yards (-120)
