Favorites to win 2023 Big Ten East DivisionThe Big Ten Conference is going to be fun to watch this year. Ohio State comes into the season as a slight favorite with a minimal edge over Michigan in terms of its championship odds.

The Buckeyes’ wide receivers are among the best in the country, as both Marvin Harrison Jr. and Emeka Egbuka can be expected to improve upon the 1,000-plus-yard receiving seasons they enjoyed with C.J. Stroud at quarterback in 2022.

There’s an ongoing QB battle going at Ohio State. Junior Kyle McCord was originally expected to earn the starting job, but redshirt freshman Devin Brown is giving the coaching staff something to think about.

Michigan, on the other hand, has built up its roster from last season with J.J. McCarthy as the returning starter at QB along with an extremely dangerous duo of Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards in the backfield.

The Wolverines hit the transfer portal for multiple additions to their offensive line, and their defense is expected to surprise fans this year. Judging by its Big Ten championship odds, Michigan is a slight underdog, but I have a feeling these Wolverines are going to cause quite the disturbance this season.

2023 College Football Big Ten East Winner Predictions and Best Bets

I’m going with Michigan to win the division for the third time in a row, and while the Buckeyes are slightly ahead in the Big Ten odds, the real favorite -- at least in my opinion -- should be Michigan.

Defenses are going to struggle with Michigan’s two-pronged running game again this year. Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards are just that good, and when J.J. McCarthy also uses his legs, defenders are often left chasing shadows.

This team has all the pieces needed to win the Big Ten East this year, and with C.J. Stroud now in the NFL, it might take a little while for the Buckeyes to adjust to their new signal caller.

Favorites to win 2023 Big Ten West DivisionWisconsin will look a little different this year as new head coach Luke Fickell embarks on his first full season since being hired last November.

One of Fickell’s biggest moves after being named the Badgers’ head coach was hiring Phil Longo as his offensive coordinator. Longo held the same position with the North Carolina Tar Heels over the past four seasons and contributed to a lot of quarterback Sam Howell’s success with the program.

Traditionally a ground-and-pound football team, the Badgers are going to be slinging the rock this year. Quarterback transfer Tanner Mordecai fits that mold, having thrown for more than 7,000 yards and 72 touchdowns over the past two seasons at SMU. Keep an eye on the Badgers as the most likely team to win the Big Ten West in its final year before expansion ends divisional play.

Although it has a relatively unknown program heading into this season, Iowa presents a threat to the Badgers.

The Hawkeyes took full advantage of the transfer portal during the offseason, bringing in Cade McNamara to play quarterback and adding multiple receivers to provide depth among the pass-catchers.

While Iowa needs to get it together quickly if it wants to compete, the other side of the coin suggests that if everything clicks -- and clicks immediately – then the Hawkeyes might be tough to stop.

I like Iowa in the first few weeks of the season, and its new-look offense is certainly going to be interesting to watch. That said, I’m not convinced they will be on the same level as the Badgers.

If Tanner Mordecai plays the way he has for the past two seasons at Southern Methodist, then Wisconsin should win all but one or two games this season.

The Badgers have the advantage of a schedule that gives them a great chance to go 5-0 before they face Iowa in Week 6. That game will be the big one in the West.

Favorites to win 2023 Big Ten ChampionshipWisconsin might be favored to win the Big Ten West, but the Badgers’ Big Ten championship odds for 2023 make them an outsider compared to three of the Big Ten East teams.

Since the Big Ten has been divided into East and West divisions, no West team has ever won the conference championship game. Wisconsin did win it in 2011 and 2012, but that was before the current setup was implemented.

The Badgers might now have one last shot at winning a title for the West Division before the conference is reassembled as an 18-team field with expansion next season, but…

Michigan has blown its West opponents out of the water in each of the past two years, and this season might feature the best squad the Wolverines have had during that time.
