It is trade deadline day in the NBA, and several players who are beginning the day with one team are going to find themselves elsewhere by the time 3 p.m. EST passes. It is the most exciting day in the NBA when it comes to player movement, even better than NBA draft day.

By the times the games tip off tonight, we will have players suddenly unavailable because they are on the way to the airport to go meet their new team. In the years ahead, each of these players will have a story to tell about the day they got dealt.

For us, it is a matter of finding the players who are stable, who have been playing well and who want to put on a show. There are two of those guys in New York tonight, one in Los Angeles and one in Portland, whose team is doing unexpected things and is playing a team that figures to be active at the trade deadline. So let’s have at it.

NBA Player Props for Thursday, February 8, 2024

Cam Thomas to have a double doule

The temptation here is to take Mitchell because he is playing in his hometown, but he is coming off a 45-point night, and the odds are short as a result. For Brooklyn, Cam Thomas had 16 points, eight rebounds and eight assists last time out in 37 minutes, and coach Jacque Vaughn will eventually need to turn to him for a more lead role, such as elevating him to the starting lineup. If Dinwiddie is dealt, someone else will have to do the passing, and we can see Thomas getting double figures in assists or rebounds to go along with his steady point production.

The Pick: Cam Thomas to have a double-double (+2500)

Josh Green to have a double-double

There is a lot of uncertainty in this game because of all the injuries and all of the trade speculation surrounding both teams, but let us not forget about one of the players who is having an alumni game: Tim Hardaway, a former member of the Knicks. Hardaway is coming off of three bad games but had 10 good ones prior to that, and his mindset is going to be “The Knicks should have never given me away.” Doncic’s lines are short, as are Irving’s. Hardaway may go on the road later, but if he does not, Josh Green has been playing very well and finished one rebound shy of a double-double two nights ago. At +2500 for a double-double, he is an enticing pick – especially if Doncic or Irving sit out due to injuries or a blowout, which is possible due to the Knicks’ injuries. Green’s capable of stepping in and getting one.

The Pick: Josh Green to have a double-double (+2500)

Anthony Edwards to score at least 40 points

Anthony Edwards scored 32 and 38 in his last two games, and because the Bucks have nobody better than Malik Beasley to defend him, he should be able to go nuts. You cannot underestimate how much the Bucks’ injuries will impact them, especially because they cannot guard opponents, and even more so because they are having trouble adjusting to new coach Doc Rivers.

The Pick: Anthony Edwards to score at least 40 points (+900)

Anfernee Simons to double-double

With all of Portland’s injuries and the likelihood that they will be making deals, somebody has to step up in a big way. Anfernee Simons finished one rebound shy of a double-double last time out, and because Portland has not played since last weekend, he should be fresh. Simons has only two double-doubles this season, but conditions are ripe tonight.

The Pick: Anfernee Simons to double-double (+600)
