Rangers vs Blackhawks Preview

The New York Rangers and the Chicago Blackhawks will meet for the second time this season on Friday night where Chicago will look to avenge an early season loss to New York back in January. The Rangers have come out of the NHL All-Star break on fire, winning games against the Avalanche and Lightning. Meanwhile, the Blackhawks have come out stumbling, losing their sole game to the Minnesota Wild. Round one between these two teams was solely controlled by the Rangers as they won 4-1. ill round two be different?

The NHL season has officially reached the second half of the season as the All-Star break has now passed. the season is starting to heat up as the games are winding down and the wins and losses are becoming that much more important. We’ll be taking our eyes to Chicago on Friday night as we’ll breakdown the New York Rangers vs. the Chicago Blackhawks.

Rangers vs Blackhawks Predictions and Picks

The Chicago Blackhawks showed promise early in the season as rookie sensation Connor Bedard looked like a 10-year veteran with how he was playing. Not showing any struggle of transitioning to the highest level of hockey, Bedard instantly became a leader for this team and gave Chicago fans hope. However, when Bedard suffered a jaw injury and began missing time, the electricity that he brought began to fade. Still without Bedard for at least a few more weeks, the Blackhawks are trying to find that juice that they had with him in the lineup. Unfortunately for Chicago fans, they won’t be finding that juice on Friday night. The Rangers are looking like one of the best teams after the All-Star break, knocking off the Colorado Avalanche in overtime and beating the Tampa Bay Lightning 3-1 on Wednesday night. The Rangers controlled the first matchup from start to finish and I expect the same result on Friday night. Chicago allows the fifth most goals to opposing skaters and ranks dead last in the NHL in goals per game, give me the Rangers on the puck line as this game will get ugly and get ugly quick.

The Pick: New York Rangers -1.5 (-115)

This total is set at a very fair number as it can literally go anyway in this matchup, as Chicago’s defense is so bad (I feel like I’m getting ready to tell a yo momma joke right now) that AHL teams could find success against them. But all jokes aside, the Rangers offense that has been on the outside looking in, as they rank just outside of the top 10 for goals per game. They are improving game by game and facing an inferior defense like Chicago’s could be just the momentum boost that they need. I see the Rangers scoring four or more goals in this contest which could put this total in jeopardy. However, I can see the Blackhawks struggling to score. Despite Igor Shesterkin’s struggles this season, he is 3-0 with a .946 save percentage lifetime against Chicago, allowing just 1.67 goals across those contests. No one is a fan of taking the under, but the under is the play here.

The Pick: Under 5.5 (-105)

Best NHL Player Prop Bet for Rangers vs Blackhawks

Nick Foligno

When Connor Bedard went out with a jaw injury it opened the door for another skater to step up to the plate in Chicago. However, no one really has. While Bedard’s shoes are certainly big ones to fill, wingman Nick Foligno has tried his best to do so as he ranks third on the team in goals, fourth in points and second in shots on goal this season. Foligno, who’s towards the end of his career, has certainly provided a nice veteran presence for this Chicago team and will look to give the home fans something to cheer about on Friday night. Foligno has scored in two out of his last five games and while an anytime goalscorer prop would be juicy here, I’m going to target his shots on goal instead. Foligno has exceeded his current prop total in four out of his last five games and has been the only skater for Chicago that has remained consistent in Bedard’s absence.

The Pick: Nick Foligno over 1.5 shots on goal (-134)

Best Same Game Parlay NHL bets today for Rangers vs. Blackhawks: 3-Leg Parlay Pick (+400)

Money Line I’m going back to my old ways on our same game parlays as I’m going to keep it simple and start off with a play on the money line. As touched on above, I like the Rangers to blow the skates off of the Blackhawks on Friday night, so we’ll keep it simple and easy and take the Rangers on the money line here.

Leg-1 SGP Pick: New York Rangers ML (-300)

Total GoalsWe took our bingo free play option for leg one and it’s time to improve the juice on leg number two. The Blackhawks defense is dreadful and ranks dead last in the NHL. The Rangers offense has remained sneaky good this season as they rank just outside the top 10 in scoring. Look for New York to come out swinging and put two on the board rather quickly. I know I leaned on the under for the total on this game, but like I said, with the state of Chicago’s defense this game could get out of hand rather quickly, and I think it will.

Leg-2 SGP Pick: New York Rangers over 4.5 goals (+195)

Total GoalsThe Chicago Blackhawks are having a rough season to say the least as their one silver lining of hope and joy this season was taken away from them when Bedard went down with a jaw injury. So, for our third leg we’re going to go with the Blackhawks to not score a goal in the first period. Chicago hasn’t scored a goal in the first period in eight out of their last 10 games. I also like this as a single bonus play as well.

Leg-3 SGP Pick: Chicago Blackhawks under 0.5 1st period goals (-115)
