The Phoenix Suns road stretch following the All Star break will finish in Houston tonight, with a matchup against a Rockets team that has struggled in recent weeks.

The Suns are currently sitting 7th in the Western Conference, tied on record with the Dallas Mavericks, who beat them 123-113 last night. Dallas’ hot streak has now put them above the Suns, who are looking to fight their way into a guaranteed playoff seed in the second half of the season.

The Rockets have only won one of their last seven games, which now sees them down in 12th place in the West. The Suns will present a tough matchup, so let’s get into some NBA same game parlay picks today for the matchup in Houston.

Phoenix Suns vs Houston Rockets Injury Report

The Suns will likely be without Bradley Beal tonight, who missed the matchup against the Dallas Mavericks last night with a hamstring issue.
Tari Eason is out for the Rockets, but outside of that, they’re at full strength. Steven Adams is yet to feature since being traded from the Grizzlies.

Phoenix Suns vs Houston Rockets Prediction and Pick

The Houston Rockets got Fred VanVleet back last night after a five-game absence heading into the All-Star break. The Rockets guard has struggled to find form in his last few now, scoring just seven points in 31 minutes last night with only two made field goals.

VanVleet signed a three-year deal to lead the Rockets for the next three seasons in June 2023, but as this season unfolds, the Houston fan base is starting to split on the return the team is currently seeing from that contract. VanVleet needs to find his form from three-point range if the Rockets want to win tonight, but he does have a shot against Phoenix.

The Suns allow the 8th most points per game against point guards, and a whopping 3.36 threes on average, putting them in the bottom five for perimeter defense against the position. When VanVleet does find his rhythm from deep he can be dangerous, but he’s only hit more than three threes on three occasions since January.
Alperen Sengun put up 20 in last night's loss, with nine rebounds and two assists, and he could be a pivotal piece for the Rockets tonight too, especially as a passer. The Suns don’t react particularly well to bigs passing the basketball, and Sengun has picked up six or more assists in four of his seven starts so far in February.

The Suns have been in good form since the turn of the year, going 14-5 since January 12. Last night's loss to the Dallas Mavericks came as a result of a 70-point display from Luka Doncic (41) and Kyrie Irving (29), who combined for 11-19 from three-point range, further emphasizing my point about the Suns’ struggles to defend the three ball.

Devin Booker put up 35 of his own, driving inside well and going 7 of 8 from the free throw line. He had eight assists and five rebounds in the game, but the Suns came up just short.

The Suns as a collective shoot the ball well, with their field goal percentage for the season ranking inside the top three. They’re 49.8% from the field and shoot 37.9% from three, best for 7th in the NBA. They boast several three-point contributors, including both Devin Booker and Kevin Durant, but also Grayson Allen, Eric Gordon and Royce O’Neale, who are all averaging at least two three-pointers a game and a minimum of 38% from deep.

The Rockets could struggle in this one if Fred VanVleet and Jalen Green don’t shoot well from three. The Suns have the upper hand in perimeter scoring across the board, and the Rockets are a poor performer at defending inside.

I’m expecting to see Devin Booker at the line a ton tonight, with the Rockets allowing 25.4 free throws a game, good for the fourth most in the NBA. The Suns are a top five team at forcing fouls too, shooting 25.1 free throws a game on the season.

I have the Suns winning this one on the road and covering the spread too. They’ve covered in six of their last eight and beat the Rockets by 16 last time around.

The Pick: Phoenix Suns -3.5 (-115)

Best NBA Player Prop Bets Tonight for Phoenix Suns vs Houston Rockets

Devin Booker Total Points

Tonight feels like a big game for Devin Booker, who has now put up 30+ three times in his last six games. He shot 13/21 from the floor last night, good for 62%, and is shooting an average of 7.6 free throws so far in February.

His line for tonight's game is set at 28.5, but I feel good about him clearing it against the Rockets. As mentioned, they give up a lot of free throws, so Booker could easily get 10+ from the line tonight, as well as a couple of three pointers and plenty around the rim.

The Pick: Devin Booker Over 28.5 Points (-110)

Alperen Sengun Assists

I really like this one for tonight. Sengun can be pretty hit or miss in the assists category. It seems he either gets one or seven plus, but tonight the matchup favors the Rockets big man picking up at least five.

The Suns allow big men to pass to open shooters far too often and have one of the worst records in the NBA defending assists against opposition centers. Outside of Nikola Jokic, Alperen Sengun is proving to be one of the best passing bigs in the NBA, and we should see more of that tonight.

The Pick: Alperen Sengun Over 4.5 Assists (-145)
