The struggling Philadelphia 76ers will host the high-flying Cleveland Cavaliers tonight at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, with both sides having very different years so far in 2024.

The Cavs have surged to second place in the Eastern Conference, going 18-3 in their last 21, while the Sixers have now lost 10 of their last 13. The absence of Joel Embiid is proving to be just as devastating as expected and is impacting the Sixers performances all over the court.

The Cavs could be without one of their stars in this one too, and they struggled without him last night. Let’s break that down and more in this one, with NBA same game parlay predictions for the matchup featuring on ESPN.

Cleveland Cavaliers vs Philadelphia 76ers Injury Report

The Philadelphia 76ers are still without Joel Embiid, who is expected to be out for several more weeks. Guard De’Anthony Melton is expected to play, while forward Robert Covington remains out with a reevaluation of his knee in 10-14 days.

Melton hasn’t played since January 13th, so his return to the lineup could provide a significant boost to the Sixers.

Cavs guard Donovan Mitchell didn’t play last night while battling an illness, and he will be a game time decision tonight against Philadelphia.

Cleveland Cavaliers vs Philadelphia 76ers Prediction and Pick

Philadelphia 76ers fans were left frustrated last night in the team’s first game since the All-Star break, performing poorly in a loss to the New York Knicks.

The Sixers put up a disappointing 96 points on the night, with Tyrese Maxey proving to be just about the only reliable shooter. He scored 35 of those 96 points, supported by 14 from both Buddy Hield and Kelly Oubre Jr. off the bench.

Hield continues to be a valuable asset from three-point range, maintaining his prowess with four successful three-pointers out of nine attempts since the break. However, the team's scoring inside the paint largely depends on Maxey, who drove well inside to help reach his 35 points, including a flawless 9/9 performance from the free throw line.

The problem for the Sixers is a lack of alternatives with Joel Embiid out. Tobias Harris’ contract remains a major frustration for the roster, scoring seven points last night in a poor performance. He’s been on a major deal with the Sixers now for several years, and one that fans feel is crippling the progression of the team. Harris is averaging 17.5 points per game on the season, but with outings like last night, it’s a fair frustration considering the $180 million deal he’s playing on.

With no immediate return in sight for Joel Embiid, the Sixers need to figure something out. First time All-Star Tyrese Maxey is propping this team up, but he can’t do it all by himself. They’ve now lost 10 of their last 13 and are rapidly sinking in the Eastern Conference rankings as a result.

The Knicks managed to have three players in double digits for rebounding last night, while Philly were led by Kenyon Martin Jr. with seven. Buddy Hield led with six assists, but the Sixers did not move the ball well once again in the loss.

The Cavs return from the All-Star break wasn’t exactly a dream start to the second half of the season either, but they have been in fine form as of late. Last night they lost in a home game against the Orlando Magic, but they’re still sitting strong in second in the Conference.

Cleveland has won 18 of their last 21 games, resulting in a stunning rise through the East to a 36-18 record, one win ahead of the Milwaukee Bucks despite having played two less games.

They’re also the most impressive team on the road in the entire NBA, boasting a 17-8 record away from Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse. That record may be a major factor again here tonight against the wounded Sixers, who got the better of them in Cleveland just before the All-Star break.

Donovan Mitchell’s status will be a key factor here, with the guard battling an illness that could keep him sidelined again tonight. He didn’t play against the Magic, and his 28.4 points per game and 6.4 assists were sorely missed.

Kicking off my NBA same game parlay picks today, I still have the Cavs winning this one on the moneyline, despite the potential absence of Mitchell. The Sixers beat them before the break, but it took a phenomenal shooting effort from both Buddy Hield and Kelly Oubre Jr. They won’t be able to rely on that and it’ll be tough to replicate here, so I’m taking the Cavs.

The Pick: Cleveland Cavaliers Moneyline (-200)

Best NBA Player Prop Bets Tonight for Cleveland Cavaliers vs Philadelphia 76ers

Tyrese Maxey Points

Defending the Sixers right now is too straightforward for strong opponents, with Tyrese Maxey being the clear threat on the team. The first time All-Star is enjoying what is easily the greatest season of his career, and without Embiid everything runs through him.

When these two teams played earlier in February, the Cavs game plan was to force Maxey off the ball and force the Sixers to play through alternative shooters, hence both Buddy Hield and Kelly Oubre Jr knocking down 24 points apiece.

Maxey is undoubtedly a major piece for the future of the Sixers, but he has one of his worst stat lines against Cleveland, averaging 17.1 points in 11 games played so far in his career. He’s scoring less against just six teams, several of which are teams he doesn’t see anywhere near as often, such as the San Antonio Spurs and the Memphis Grizzlies.

The Cavs are a very tough unit defensively, especially against the three ball. I have Maxey going under 27.5 tonight in my NBA same game parlay.

The Pick: Tyrese Maxey Under 27.5 Points (-165)

Evan Mobley Rebounds

Evan Mobley has been rebounding well in February after missing most of December and January through injury. He’s picked up double digit boards in five of his eight games so far this month, including the 10 he had against the Sixers on February 12.

The Sixers are struggling on the boards without Embiid, allowing over 44 rebounds a game, and Evan Mobley could benefit from that once again.

I’m expecting some less than ideal three-point attempts from Philly, and if they underperform inside the paint again Mobley could have a major rebounding night.

The Pick: Evan Mobley Over 10.5 Rebounds (+160)
