Nuggets vs. Celtics Predictions and Best Bets

Well, the Denver Nuggets are the defending champions, and although they do not have the best record in the West, the teams ahead of them, Minnesota and Oklahoma City, have zero recent history of postseason success.

The home team, the Boston Celtics, has not lost a single game on their famous parquet floor this season (20-0 at home) and enter tonight’s tilt with the NBA’s best record, 32-9.

The Betway board lists Boston at +300 and Denver at +400 (along with Milwaukee) to win the NBA championship. So at the very least we can say we have the two favorites going up against each other tonight, with the Nuggets eager to become the first visitor to win in Boston. Nikola Jokic will want to make up for what happened to him Tuesday night in Philadelphia when he was outplayed by Joel Embiid in a matchup of the NBA’s two most dominant big men.

Boston is favored by a large amount, 6.5 points, in what will be just the fifth game all season in which the Nuggets have been road underdogs (they are 1-3-0 ATS in such situations). The Celtics are 13-7-0 ATS as home favorites, most recently covering a 15.5-point spread against San Antonio by posting a 19-point victory Wednesday night.

The NFL is going to rule the news cycle this weekend as the divisional round of the playoffs take place, but Friday night comes first. As far as quality games go, you really cannot do better than Nuggets vs. Celtics for the first time this season. They will play again in Denver on TNT in a nationally televised game March 7.

Since we all want to be gambling with house money when the NFL consumes our weekend, our aim here is to put everyone in that position.

Best NBA Same Game Parlay Picks Today for Nuggets vs. Celtics: 3-Leg Parlay Picks (+11000)

Nikola Jokic 18+ rebounds

Jokic grabbed 18 rebounds against the Sixers Tuesday night, the second time he has finished with 18, which was not his season high. That number is 21, which he did against the Houston Rockets (he also had a 19-rebound game against Houston). Jokic has had a triple-double against the Celtics in each of the past four seasons, and there is no good reason to think he will not make it five. But his triple-double line is a mere +150. The 18-rebound line offers far more enticing odds, and it is not like the 7-foot Serbian has never done it before. Last season, he grabbed 18 or more rebounds 10 times. He is playing on three days of rest, so coach Michael Malone may leave him out there more than he would if Jokic had played Thursday or Wednesday.

Leg-1 SGP Pick: Nikola Jokic to grab at least 18 rebounds (+900)

Jayson Tatum 40+ points

Tatum is not in the MVP conversation despite being the best player on the East’s best team. He has not been as prolific of a scorer as he was last season, when he scored 35 or more points 25 times. This season he has reached 35 just four times, two of which happened in back to back games earlier this month against Indiana and Minnesota. Since then, he has scored 7, 27, 19 and 24 points, looking like a mere mortal. The thinking here is that he is well overdue for a prolific scoring night, and he brings his A+ game because of the quality of the opponent and because of the ESPN stage on what will be a frigid night outdoors in Beantown. There is a temptation to play the +270 line on 35 or more points, but a few fortuitous whistles can get him those extra five points. He has been to the free throw line 10 or more times in just eight games, and somebody on the Boston staff (special advisor Jeff Van Gundy delivers these types of motivational messages) will get in his ear about the need to draw fouls and to make the Nuggets go to their relatively weak frontcourt bench as a result.

Leg-2 SGP Pick: Jayson Tatum to score at least 40 points (+700)

Jrue Holiday 1+ blocked shots

Holiday has had at least two blocked shots in nine games, and he has had exactly one block in 12 games. So in 21 of 41 games, the player considered one of the top defensive guards in the entire NBA has had a rejection. Since we are expecting extraordinary statistical outings from Jokic and Tatum in the first two legs of this parlay, we are resisting the temptation to go with the +600 line for two or more blocks for Holiday. Yes, greed is good, as Gordon Gekko told us. But too much greed in a parlay is not good at all. Holiday can be stuck on zero for 47 minutes and will still have a chance at that first block in the final minute. This pick is what we call a parlay builder/booster.

Leg-3 SGP Pick: Jrue Holiday to have at least one blocked shot (+115)

Put those three picks together and you have a Same Game Parlay of +11000, meaning a $10 wager would return $1,110, and a $100 wager would return $11,100. Pretty nice odds for having two extremely great players having great games, and one outstanding defender blocking a single shot. Good luck!
