Cavaliers vs. Heat Predictions and Best Bets

The holidays are almost upon us, and our wives, husbands, girlfriends, boyfriends and children are compiling their wish lists. We need to pay for those gifts, and making a winning wager or two prior to the weekend of holiday shopping is within our reach if we are sharps.

So let’s be sharp as we look ahead to tonight’s Cleveland Cavaliers at Miami Heat game, and let’s begin by saying the oddsmakers missed big on Miami two nights ago when they were in Toronto, and most bettors missed too, as the line moved from Raptors – 3 ½ to -4 ½ over the course of the day.

The Heat were NBA finalists last season, and although they have a tendency to lollygag through the regular season from time to time, they turn on the on/off switch enough during the regular season to make the playoffs. That has been the case for the past four seasons, three of which took them to the Eastern Conference finals and beyond.

Erik Spoelstra’s team is 12-9 and has lost four of six, a streak that began following a 33-point victory over these very same Cavaliers as Kyle Lowry scored 28 and rookie Jamie Jaquez Jr. scored 22, and we will go out on a limb (not really) and predict that those two will not be Miami’s leading scorers tonight.

Lowry made seven 3-pointers that night as the Heat won without Bam Adebayo or Tyler Herro, which again will be the case tonight as Adebayo has a hip injury, Herro has an ankle injury and starting power forward Haywood Highsmith has a back injury. (This is why the Cavs are favored, but the Heat were in a similar situation two nights ago when they defeated the Raptors in Toronto.) Let’s not forget that the Heat are deep, and keep an eye on rookie center Orlando Robinson, who is not on the board tonight but is worth watching after killing it in Summer League.

Best NBA Same-Game Parlay Picks Today for Cavaliers at Heat: 3 Leg Same Game Parlay Picks (+1800)

Leg-1 SGP: Duncan Robinson 5+ assists (+400)

Robinson had a seven-assist outing against the Cavs while playing 32 minutes  two nights ago, and though he is known as a shooter (he attempted 10 3-pointers Wednesday) he is also a Heat system player, and he also had a seven assist game Nov. 18 at Chicago. He has had five or more assists four times this season, and his production across the board has steadily gone up for four straight games. This is a more enticing wager than looking at Robinson’s 3-point props, which require him to make at least four to get a plus wager.

Leg-2 SGP: Max Strus 3+ 3-pointers (-160)

This will be an alumni game for Strus, the German player who helped the Heat reach the NBA Finals last season before departing as a free agent. He laid an egg the first time the teams played in Cleveland (six points in 25 minutes), but he will be back at the arena where he knows the sight lines, and a tribute video from the Heat is not out of the question even though the guy ain’t exactly Dwyane Wade when it comes to ranking the greatest contributors in Heat history. He had made four 3-pointers in two straight games, and we are setting the number at three or more to make this leg a parlay builder with something likely to hit.

Leg-3 SGP: Darius Garland to have a double-double (+300)

Garland is coming off a terrific 26-point, nine assist game with no turnovers against Orlando on Wednesday night, and the 23-year old logged 40 minutes in that game – something we expect him to duplicate tonight as the Cavs seek to run their winning streak to three after coach J.B. Bickerstaff’s team was booed at home following a loss to Portland. The Cavs will have a size advantage with Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley starting against Robinson and Caleb Martin. Repeat after me these two words: Alley. Oop. If Garland can toss a half-dozen of those to his two bigs, he will be well on his way to the magic number of 10.

We would add in a Donovan Mitchell wager because he has been hot and he will be stoked, but nothing on the board that is likely or unlikely has an enticing price. So this SGP has three legs and comes in at +1800, meaning a $10 wager would return $180. You can the take that $180 and let it ride on the in-season tournament finale, which figures to be the same type of LeBron James showcase that Thursday night’s second semifinal was. Damn, that guy just does not get old. Good luck!
