Cavaliers vs. Celtics Predictions and Best Bets

The Boston Celtics have not played a game since last Friday, which is an eternity in the NBA. Players get three full days of rest only once during a typical season, and that comes over the All-Star break when some players still must travel to the NBA’s showcase event.

That is not the case tonight with the Boston Celtics, who are playing a Cleveland Cavaliers team that is dealing with several injuries and had to fly from Orlando to Boston last night after losing to the Orlando Magic 104-94 with their lowest point total since Halloween.

The Celtics, who are 10 ½-point favorites, will entertain the Cavs again on Thursday as the team from Cleveland spends three days in Boston. They will be without Evan Mobley, Caris LaVert, Ty Jerome and Ricky Rubio again tonight as they play their first game of the season against the Celtics.

Some numbers to consider:

  • The Celtics are 9-10-2 against the spread, but 7-3-0 as a home favorite and 5-3-1 with a rest advantage.
  • The Cavs are 9-12-2 against the spread, including 3-2-0 as a road underdog and 1-2-1 on the second half of back-to-backs.

So when putting together a Same Game Parlay that we want to boost with either a point spread or a moneyline wager, those statistics will help give us an extra pick that is likely to hit and will boost whatever players props we put together. In the sports gambling strategy game, that is an approach that is time tested. It can make a 3-leg parlay into a 4-leg parlay, for example, and we all know that the more legs, the longer the odds. So you must look for something likely.

So let’s have at it …

Best NBA Same Game Parlay Cavs vs Celtics – Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2023: 4-Leg Parlay (+9000 odds)

Leg-1 SGP Pick: Derrick White 20+ points (+390)

The Celtics are coming off an 11-point victory over the New York Knicks in which White made six 3-pointers and scored a season-high 30 points in 32 minutes. He is averaging 23.0 points per game this month after averaging 13.6 in November, clearly becoming more acclimated to his role and taking advantage of the open looks he is getting when defenses are forced to focus their attention on Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Kristaps Porzingis. He has attempted 19 3-point shots over the last two games, so those looks figure to keep coming.

The Pick: Derrick White to score 20 or more points (+390).

Leg-2 SGP Pick: Celtics – 10 ½

As noted above, the Celtics pedestrian overall ATS record has some hidden gems in certain situations, all of which come into play tonight. The Cavs are on the second night of a road back-to-back, and the Celtics have been at home eating clam clowder for four days. They should come out strong and turn this into a runaway early.

The Pick: Celtics – 10 ½ points

Leg-3 SGP Pick: Kristaps Porzingis 2+ blocks

The 7-footer from Latvia can be a very productive shot-blocker when needed. He had four of them in the Celtics’ last game against the Knicks, and has recorded three or more blocks four times this season. Porzingis had 12 over a three-game stretch earlier this season, and he is averaging 2 per game this month. If he merely reaches his average, we have a winner.

The Pick: Kristaps Porzingis to block at least 2 shots (+130).

Leg-4 SGP: Jrue Holiday 10+ rebounds (+550)

Holiday is known best as one of the league’s top on-the-ball defenders, and tonight he gets the assignment on Darius Garland, who was a one-man band last night in Orlando in terms of trying to get his team going, attempting 23 shots while scoring 36 points. It did not help his team’s cause that George Niang was 0-for-10 off the bench, and Isaac Okoro was 0-for-4. So the expectation is that Holiday is going to be the most active member of the Celtics on the defensive end, and on offense he will be a floater who can grab offensive rebounds and create second-chance points. Holiday has reached double figures in rebounds four times this season, so it would not be unprecedented. Yes, it is unlikely. But this is a parlay payoff building block.

The Pick: Jrue Holiday to grab 10 or more rebounds (+550).

Add those four picks together and you have yourself a +9000 parlay based upon the assumption that this will end up being a comfortable Celtics victory, and they have a lot of those. Cleveland’s injuries and lack of depth will be a hindrance. Good luck!
