The Trail Blazers have clobbered the Philadelphia 76ers on the road, they have defeated the West-leading Minnesota Timberwolves, and they have notched easier wins against the weaker Chicago Bulls and Washington Wizards.

Tonight, the injury-depleted, tanking Portland Trail Blazers make their annual visit to Madison Square Garden, with the Knicks bringing a season-high 4-game winning streak into a game in which they are favored by 11.5 points.

With the seasons for the Jets and Giants completed, the attention of New Yorkers is going to swing hard to Tom Thibodeau’s team, which has not lost since acquiring O.G. Anunoby from the Toronto Raptors in a trade that sent out R.J. Barrett and Immanuel Quickley.

Best NBA Parlays Today – Tuesday, January 9, 2024: 4-Leg Parlay Picks (+1289)

They are now one of five Eastern Conference teams with 21-15 records who are all lumped behind Boston, Milwaukee and Philadelphia. The opportunity to get homecourt advantage is there for all five: the Knicks, Heat, Magic, Pacers and Cavs, and the Knicks will play more home games over the remainder of the season than any other NBA team. They’ve played 22 road games and just 14 home games.

The trade was a boost for the team mentally, but how can the positivity be channeled into some profit taking tonight with just five NBA games being played? Let’s take a crack at it …

Leg-1 Parlay Pick: Knicks-Trail Blazers under 226.5

Portland has been in Manhattan for three days because they played the Nets in Brooklyn over the weekend, so jet leg and other travel-related issues will not be a factor. Also, they rang up 134 points in an overtime victory over the Nets last time out. This line has been set low because the Knicks have gone under in three straight games, with their defense holding their last four opponents to 106, 100, 92 and 105. Another under looks likely, especially if this one gets away from Portland early, which could happen if the Knicks feed off what should be a psyched-up crowd.

The Pick: Knicks-Trail Blazers under 226.5 (-105)

Leg-2 Parlay Pick: Timberwolves-Magic over 216.5

This is the best under-the-radar game on the NBA schedule all season. Here’s why: If you watch ESPN, you hear a lot of talking and a lot of arguing about one team: the Los Angeles Lakers. This is because ESPN carts minute-by-minute viewer engagement based upon when people are watching and when they are turning the channel based upon the topic. The Lakers equal audience engagement, and discussion over overachieving teams such as Orlando and Minnesota equal an immediate drop-off. We know this because we are friendly with several ESPN NBA reporters who have discussed this with us in confidence. These teams are going to go at each other hard tonight, and we like this one to go over before the fourth quarter is only a couple of minutes old. Both teams are better than ESPN will tell you.

The Pick: Magic-Timberwolves over 216.5 (-110)

Leg-3 Parlay Pick: Raptors + 4.5 at Lakers

The Lakers are coming off a victory over the Clippers that may or may not have saved Darvin Ham’s job, and the fact of the matter is that they have two great players in LeBron James and Anthony Davis and a nice third piece in Austin Reaves, who is now starting. The rest of the team consists of interchangeable parts who are shuffled in and out of the starting lineup, guys like Cam Reddish, Jarred Vanderbilt,D’Angelo Russell and Rui Hachimura who are all good-but-not-great NBA players. The Raptors are coming off a 15-point victory at Golden State as they spend six straight days on the road in California. The moneyline is tempting (+170), but the spread is safer in a parlay. This looks like a down-to-the-buzzer game.

The Pick: Raptors + 4.5 points at Lakers (-105)

Leg-4 Parlay Pick: Mavericks – 8.5 vs. Grizzlies

The Mavs have won and covered in three straight games, and they are playing a Grizzlies team that will be a mental mess after learning that Ja Morant is now out for the season. They just got their best player back from a 25-game suspension and now he needs season-ending shoulder surgery. The Mavs are getting a lot lately from Kyrie Irving and always get a lot from Luka Doncic. This has blowout written all over it.

The Pick: Mavericks – 8.5 vs Grizzlies (-105)

Put those four picks together on Betway and you get a four-leg parlay with odds of +1289. A $10 wager would return $138.92, which will get you a hot dog, a beer and a parking lot spot within 5 blocks of Madison Square Garden should you ever choose to attend a Knicks game in person. Yes, Manhattan is expensive. And we should note that you will still need to shell out for tickets. But this one gets you a frankfurter and a beverage and keeps your car from getting broken into. Good luck!
