NBA Player Prop Bets Today for Tuesday, January 9, 2024

Tonight is a relatively light night in the NBA with only five games, one of those nights when you do not have to look at a huge slate of games to determine where the best bets can be made.

Nights like this coming Wednesday (10 games) and Friday (10 games) offer more gambling choices, but also can make it a little too tempting to add that one additional pick that can turn a winning 4-leg parlay into a losing 5-leg parlay.

Remember, the object of sports gambling (or any gambling for that matter) is to win. That is why the best gamblers know when it is time to walk away from the blackjack table in a casino, and why the smart lottery players take the payoff from a winning scratch-off ticket and out it in their wallet rather than buying more scratch-offs.

We are all in favor of both responsible gambling and intelligent gambling, the latter of which implies that one must make parlay wagers with the mathematical formula that only one out of every four needs to hit in order for a profit to be turned.

The picks listed below all have one thing in common: Enticing odds. Only one out of four needs to hit in order for a profit to be turned. None is extremely unlikely, and you can go 1-for-4 and still be a winner.

So with that in mind, we go for the payoff tonight by looking at four players who either have been killing it, or will need to begin killing it based upon their team’s current circumstances. Here we go …

Best Kings vs Pistons Player Prop Bets Tonight

Jaden Ivey to double-double

Pistons point guard Cade Cunningham is listed as out tonight on Detroit’s 9:30 a.m. injury report, which means someone is going to have to pick up the slack for the NBA’s worst team at home against a Sacramento team that will want to recover from a dreadful 33-point loss to the New Orleans Pelicans. The Kings focus will be on doing better offensively, and when there is an overt focus on offense sometimes the result is a letdown defensively. That is why we like Ivey, the fifth overall pick in 2022, to do what he did five games ago against Boston: Reach double figures in points and assists. He had eight of them last season and is due for his second of this season.

The Pick: Jaden Ivey to record a double-double (+1100)

Best Timberwolves vs Magic Player Prop Bets Tonight

Anthony Edwards to double-double

This is a very enticing line for a player who just had a double-double in Minnesota’s previous game against Dallas. Edwards will be defended by the overmatched Jalen Suggs. He has had five this season (three with double-figure rebounds; two with double-figure assists) and had 10 last year. He is well on his way to representing the Western Conference at the NBA All-Star game. Minnesota needs a bounce-back victory after losing to the Mavs, and they remain the No. 1 team in the West for a reason: They have a superstar in Edwards along with two 7-footers (Rudy Gobert and Karl-Anthony Towns) who are tough for any team to match up with.

The Pick: Anthony Edwards to double-double (+550)

Best Trail Blazers vs Knicks Player Prop Bets Tonight

Isaiah Hartenstein 18+ rebounds

Stephen A. Smith has been making fun of this guy on the air because he has a weird last name, and with Stephen A. you have to take everything tongue-in-cheek. He gets paid to say controversial things, but deep down he knows that Hartenstein may end up being an upgrade over Mitchell Robinson, who is out for the season. Hartenstein’s rebound totals over the past three games: 19, 6, and 20. We like the chances of that conversion rate going from 66.7 percent to 75 percent, as he looks to shut Stephen A’s mouth.

The Pick: Isaiah Hartenstein to grab at least 18 rebounds (+900)

Best Grizzlies vs Mavericks Player Prop Bets Tonight

Kyrie Irving 35+ points

Irving is coming off a 35-point game in his last outing, and he will not have Ja Morant checking him as the Grizzlies star is now out for the season with a shoulder injury. Irving has scored 35 or more three times this season, and last season he did it four times after being acquired from Brooklyn. It is certainly within his capabilities, and at this price it is a relatively enticing proposition. This should be an enormous blowout for the Mavs, but it would be better if the Grizzlies play the same way they did against the Suns, when they won in Phoenix. That would mean more minutes for Irving, and a better chance for this to hit. Even so, Kyrie can get 35 in three quarters if that is the way the game goes.

The Pick: Kyrie Irving to score at least 35 points (+550)
