UFC Fight Card Saturday Night: Predictions, Odds & Best Bets

The UFC on ESPN is back via Fight Night this weekend at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida. The event is headlined by the featherweight bout between US fighter Josh Emmett and Georgian fighter Ilia Topuria, with the Georgian being the current favorite.

Amanda Ribas makes her highly-anticipated return to the octagon as she takes on Maycee Barber in an electrifying showdown within the women's UFC flyweight division. The heavyweight clash between Austen Lane and Justin Tafa promises to be an all-out war, showcasing the raw power and determination of these two fighters. Adding to the excitement, featherweight rising stars David Onama and Gabriel Santos are set to go head-to-head, each eager to make their mark and ascend the rankings in an exhilarating battle.

Overall, this is an underrated card in many ways, so let’s dive into some UFC picks and predictions for the event.

Josh Emmett vs Ilia Topuria Prediction & Picks

38 year old veteran Josh Emmett wanted to get right back into the octagon after suffering a loss at UFC 284 in an interim title bout with Yair Rodriguez. Prior to the loss Emmett had been on a five-fight win streak that saw him ranked as a top contender, but a triangle choke cost him the fight and the belt in round two.

Emmett’s career has been filled with difficult injuries and the title shot had been a long road, but the American is keen to get back to it this coming weekend.

He has a tough battle on his hands in Jacksonville, facing 13-0 Georgian/Spanish Ilia Topuria. The mixed martial artist has finished his last four fights inside the first two rounds, including wins over Jai Herbert, Bryce Mitchell and a first-round slugging against Ryan Hall at UFC 264.

Topuria is currently ranked number nine in the UFC featherweight division and a win over Josh Emmett would only improve his stock further as a quickly climbing undefeated fighter in the UFC.

One of the main questions here is whether the step up in experience and competition for Topuria will be manageable. This is his toughest test yet and Josh Emmett typically knows how to defend himself on the ground with a background in wrestling. He got caught out at UFC 284 and admitted that he made a mistake late in the round, so will be on his guard for this one.

Emmett has only ever been submitted once, and that won’t be easy for Topuria to accomplish. When it comes to striking Emmett has the upper hand, so the Georgian fighting out of Alicante, Spain is going to need a clean performance with his ground game to pull this one off.

Topuria is the favorite and the way he handled Bryce Mitchell likely contributes towards that, but Josh Emmett is a tough guy and has faced some serious competition in his UFC career. I think the odds are a little harsh on Emmett to lose before the final bell, but I think Topuria edges it by decision.

Regardless, this should be a good fight.

The Pick: Ilia Topuria to win by decision (+700)

Amanda Ribas vs Maycee Barber Prediction & Picks

The co-main event of Saturdays upcoming UFC fights should be a really good one between two high-energy high-volume strikers in the womens flyweight division.

Amanda Ribas last three fights have all gone to decision, with the last one coming at UFC 285 on the same card as the Jon Jones vs Cyril Gane fight. Ribas fought Viviane Araujo and won by unanimous decision to get herself back on track after her previous loss to Katlyn Chookagian in May 2022.

Ribas had a great run in 2019-2020 but her record since then is 2-2. She’s undoubtedly one of the more entertaining female fighters in the UFC with impressive cardio and a fearless approach to her striking game. She’s always on the front foot and that could set up a great fight with Maycee Barber on Saturday night.

Barber is on a four-fight win streak, all by decision with the last one being a close fight where she won via split against Andrea Lee. She is now 12-2 and proving herself in the UFC and has a similar high strike volume approach to that of Ribas.

These two women should go toe to toe for multiple rounds in this one, with the winner likely being she who impresses the judges the most at the final bell. Barber packs a punch and likely has Ribas beat in the power department, but Amanda Ribas is a smart fighter and knows how to pick at her opponents weaknesses.

I’d imagine a closely contested fight with a couple of tactical takedown attempts on each side, and I have Ribas coming out on top in my UFC night prediction for the weekend. Barber’s takedown defense has been one of her downfalls despite recent success, so I’m going with Ribas here on points.

The Pick: Amanda Ribas to win by decision (+100)

David Onama vs Gabriel Santos – Featherweight bout - Event Fight Info:

David Onama vs Gabriel Santos Prediction & Picks

There’s a lot to fight for here for these two men. Both fighters come into this one having suffered a loss in their last fight and will be looking to get back on track.

Onama had wins against Gabriel Benitez and Garrett Armfield before losing to Nate Landwehr, and Gabriel Santos was 10-0 when he took his first fight in the UFC, which he then lost to Lerone Murphy by split decision.

Onama has fought four times in the UFC with a 2-2 record while Santos is now 0-1, so both men are looking to establish themselves at MMA’s highest level.

This shapes up as an interesting fight. Onama has a little more experience in the UFC and a four-inch reach advantage, while Gabriel Santos proved he was a skilled takedown artist despite the loss to Murphy in March.

Both men will tally points by using those skills to their advantage, but barring takedowns Santos might find it difficult to get close to Onama. I have the Ugandan native winning this one in what should be one of the more exciting fights of the night. I like the UFC card odds for the pick and will be making sure I tune into this one.

The Pick: David Onama to win by decision (+500)
