Strickland vs Magomedov Prediction & Pick

In 2022, Abus Magomedov made a remarkable UFC debut by swiftly dispatching Dustin Stoltzfus in a mere 19 seconds. His opponent was completely caught off guard by the sheer power of his kick, followed by a couple of seriously damaging punches.

Magomedov is the number one MMA fighter in Germany right now, but Dustin Stoltzfus was number two. The win introduced UFC fans to Magomedov’s strength and power, and he’ll now get a shot against one of the UFC’s veterans in Sean Strickland.

Strickland’s recent record has been a little up and down with a win against Nassourdine Imavov in his last fight, but prior to that suffered losses against both Jared Cannonier and Alex Pereira.

Stricklands last four wins have all come via decision, and after watching Magomedov slaughter Stoltzfus in less than 10 seconds of actual contact, Strickland might need to get to work a little faster this time around.

Magomedov’s betting line has come down in a hurry since the initial odds came out, with the German’s chance of winning now set at a very complimentary +115. Considering he’s only fought in the UFC once, fans seem to think he has a great shot against the American in Vegas.

The German has 14 wins via knockout in his professional MMA career so far, possessing freakish power and mobility to damage his opponents in a hurry. He has a slight reach advantage and the more I looked at it the more I favored the underdog.

The Pick: Abus Magomedov to win (+115)

Damir Ismagulov vs Grant Dawson – Lightweight Bout Fight Info:

Damir Ismagulov vs Grant Dawson Odds, Moneyline,  Over/Under – UFC Fight Odds 7/1

Moneyline: Ismagulov -138, Dawson +115
Total Rounds:
-1.5 (1.5): Over 1.5 - 400, Under 1.5 +275
-2.5 (2.5): Over 2.5 -225, Under 2.5 +162

Ismagulov KO, TKO or Disqualification +600
Ismagulov Decision or Technical Decision +140
Ismagulov By Submission +2200
Dawson KO, TKO or Disqualification +1000
Dawson Decision or Technical Decision +230
Dawson By Submission +300
Draw or Technical Draw +5000

Ismagulov vs Dawson Prediction & Pick

This should be a great fight. Grant Dawson is undefeated in the UFC so far with seven wins and one draw since his debut in 2019, now boasting a 19-1-1 MMA record. He submitted former Olympian Mark Madsen with a fine display of work on the ground, and now has 13 submissions in his career.

He’s a takedown master who has one of the finest senses for attacking his opponent and catching him off guard, allowing him to then go to work on the ground. He will need to do the same against Ismagulov, who has the advantage in this matchup if they spend too much time on their feet.

The Russian born Ismagulov is 24-2 with a 5-1 record in the UFC, but had called it quits after his last fight when he suffered a loss against Arman Tsarukyan. He had said he was dealing with an illness and retired from MMA. However, he is now making a comeback with this weekend's fight against Grant Dawson.

He’s a great striker and can deliver a powerful jab if you get too close to him, so Dawson is going to need to be very careful of that in his attempted takedowns. 12 of his 24 wins have come via knockout, so he certainly possesses the power to do damage in the octagon.

The UFC card odds in this fight started out in favor of Damir Ismagulov but have since trended far closer to an even bout, making the decision a little tougher. Considering Dawson’s rise and his dominance on the ground, I’ll back him to win this one via submission inside the final bell.

The Pick: Grant Dawson to win via submission (+300)

Max Griffin vs Michael Morales – Welterweight Bout Fight Info:

UFC Fight Schedule 2023
Max Griffin (19-9-0) vs Michael Morales (14-0-0)

Max Griffin vs Michael Morales Odds, Moneyline,  Over/Under – UFC Fight Odds 7/1

Moneyline: Griffin +200, Morales -250
Total Rounds:
-1.5 (1.5): Over 1.5 - 275, Under 1.5 +200
-2.5 (2.5): Over 2.5 -138, Under 2.5 +105
Method of Victory:
Griffin KO, TKO or Disqualification +500
Griffin Decision or Technical Decision +450
Griffin By Submission +1600
Morales KO, TKO or Disqualification +200
Morales Decision or Technical Decision +140
Morales By Submission +1200
Draw or Technical Draw +5000

Griffin vs Morales Prediction & Pick

This marks a big test for Michael Morales, who is currently boasting a 14-0 undefeated MMA record with two wins in his first two fights in the UFC. He is being touted as a strong up and coming candidate in the welterweight division, and will get a chance to once more showcase his skills this weekend in the UFC on ESPN.

Current odds and many fans UFC picks have Morales as a fairly strong favorite against a powerful Max Griffin, and if he does in fact win the buzz around him as a rising star will continue to grow. He throws a lot of strikes and lands them at a high rate too, fighting with a lot of energy and plenty of stamina in the fights we’ve seen so far.

He does however have gaps in his armor with defense that could be improved which often results in him taking more shots than he should. With Griffin’s power there's a chance there to catch the rising talent off guard, and that could make this one the kind of fight that keeps you on the edge of your seat.

Griffin will need to be looking to deal some damage early in this fight, as he tends to slow down a little during his bouts and if he does so here Morales will take advantage late on.

There’s a distinct age gap between the two with Morales at 24 years old and Griffin now 37. The veteran has been in good form recently with a 4-1 record in his last five and the only loss coming in a tight contest decided via split decision.

Griffin has made comments about the matchup, claiming that the UFC are ‘sending a guy who they think can beat him’. He’ll be out to prove a point, but I have Morales winning this one in my UFC picks for the weekend.

The Pick: Michael Morales to win by decision (+140)
