Best World Cup Soccer Parlay Bets for the Round of 16

As the World Cup in Qatar unfolds, we now have matchups finalized for the first four games in the Round of 16 stage of the tournament. The USA made it through Group B in second place thanks to some Christian Pulisic heroics and will now lineup against the Netherlands on Saturday.

Argentina corrected their shocking loss against Saudi Arabia in the first game of their World Cup campaign with back-to-back wins against both Mexico and Poland. They head through as the winners of Group C and will face an Australia side that made the Round of 16 for just the second time in their history.

Current world champions France go head-to-head with Poland having rested most of their starting lineup in their loss against Tunisia in their final group stage game. England, meanwhile, will meet Senegal after an impressive group stage performance in which they scored nine goals.

USA vs Netherlands Predictions and Same Game Parlay Picks

The Netherlands will be encouraged by the return of second-top all-time goalscorer Memphis Depay, who started for the first time in months after facing injury struggles. Depay played over an hour in the final group stage game before being substituted. Even though he looked off the pace, he gave the Dutch team a goal threat up front that they lacked in the first two games.

On the flipside, the USA might be without one of their key threats. Poster boy Christian Pulisic went down injured after scoring a crucial first half goal for USMNT against Iran. This goal ended up being the only one of the game, leading to USA recording their first win of the group stage and securing their spot in the knockout stages of the competition. Pulisic reportedly suffered an abdominal injury that could keep him from starting in the Round of 16 clash.

Despite qualifying for the knockout rounds and topping Group A, the Netherlands team have been far from impressive so far. Head coach Louis Van Gaal is still trying to find the right balance in the midfield area around Barcelona midfielder Frenkie De Jong.

Attacking-wise, it has been incredibly disjointed, relying heavily on rising star Cody Gakpo to provide moments of magic. With three goals in three games, he does look like the man for the big occasions. This game feels like it’s going to need a moment of magic to be decided, and perhaps Gakpo will be the difference in what is likely to be a low scoring game.

The USA have their work cut out trying to figure out their own struggles in front of goal. They’re not creating enough clear goalscoring opportunities and, potentially without their talisman Christian Pulisic for this game, it’s not clear where the goals will be coming from.

This one will be a tight affair, with limited goalmouth action. Whoever gets the first goal will most likely go on to win the game. Extra time and potentially our first penalty shootout of the knockout stages are on the cards. I’m backing a draw after 90 minutes and under 2.5 goals scored.

Argentina vs Australia Predictions and Same Game Parlay Picks

Argentina quickly became the talk of the tournament for all the wrong reasons after giving up a lead to lose 2-1 to Saudi Arabia in their opening match of the tournament.

Thankfully, the South American side figured things out with plenty of time to spare, notching wins against Mexico and Poland to finish top of the group. They enter the Round of 16 as heavy favorites against Australia, who overcame the odds and won two of their three group stage games.

Australia have played well defensively since allowing four goals against France in their first game. In the two games that followed, they shut out both Tunisia and Denmark. The Australian side play with determination and could be considered one of the most energetic teams at the tournament. They’ll have nothing to lose against Argentina, and I’d expect to see them defend effectively and try catch the South Americans out on the counter.

For the Argentines, the challenge will be playing their way through the Australian lines. Lionel Messi and co struggled to pick Mexico apart in the first half of their second group game but began to click in the second half as the Mexicans grew tired. There’s no doubt this Argentinian side is extremely talented, and they do look like a team that’s improving as each game goes on.

Australia’s campaign deserves plenty of recognition so far, but this Argentina side might be one step too far.

France vs Poland Predictions and Same Game Parlay Picks

France seemed to breeze through the group stage, resting Kylian Mbappe and the rest of their stars for the majority of the third game against Tunisia. With their progression all wrapped up prior to the game, I’m not reading into the Tunisia loss all that much.

The French handled their business early. Their starting lineup will go into this game well rested and purely focused on the knockout stages of the competition. Mbappe looks every bit as dangerous as we have grown to expect, and he’s looked like scoring or setting up a team mate every time he’s touched the ball in opposition territory.

The France starting XI has gelled well so far in the tournament, even without Chelsea’s N'Golo Kante, who is still sorely missed in the midfield. They have a perfect blend of experience and youth, which is the recipe for success in major tournaments.

Poland, meanwhile, struggled to make an impact in their final group stage game against Argentina. The lack of service for front man Robert Lewandowski continues to be an issue. While Lewandowski is understandably the hero of the national team, it’s goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny who’s been the star of the tournament for them so far.

Szczesny has saved two penalties in the tournament, the first of which came at a crucial point in Poland's game against Saudi Arabia. Without that double save, Poland might not have made the knockouts. Szczesny’s second penalty save denied Lionel Messi his third goal of the tournament with a phenomenal save to his left. Poland will need their keeper to continue his top form and keep France at bay if they want a shot at knocking out the current champions.

England vs Senegal Predictions and Same Game Parlay Picks

England's patient style of football has paid off for them so far in the tournament, with Gareth Southgate’s side breezing through the group stage with two wins and a draw and nine goals scored in the process.

The England team have shown patience in their build up and ultimately benefited from their attacking talent the team has going forward. With Raheem Sterling, Bukayo Saka, Phil Foden, Jack Grealish and Marcus Rashford all available, the England team is blessed with so many attackers to choose from in the wide areas.

It was Rashford who showed the individual ability to take a man on and provide a spark for the England team in their third and final game of the group stages against Wales. Rashford smashed a free-kick into the top right corner with some real power for England's first goal, before netting a second time later in the game with a composed finish. The Manchester United attacker has certainly made a case for himself to start once again against Senegal. Southgate always looks to tinker with his personnel and system so all eyes will be on the lineup an hour before kickoff.

Senegal should not be underestimated, though, and England will need to be wary of their ability to get forward with speed despite the loss of talisman Sadio Mane. Ismaila Sarr will be a familiar name to the England squad, having played in the Premier League with Watford. Sarr is more than capable of providing a spark and a little bit of trickery at any given moment. Manager Aliou Cisse has done a great job with the Senegal team since taking over, and his team are genuine believers that they can compete at this tournament under his leadership.

The Africa Cup of Nations champions will give England a different challenge to what they have already faced, but the loss of center midfielder Idrissa Gueye is critical. Gueye will be serving a one-game suspension and can return to the team in the quarter-finals if Senegal make it through.

Expect to see another possession dominant and patient approach from the England team, who will look to frustrate Senegal into making a mistake.
