The first leg of the Champions League semi-final match between Manchester City and Real Madrid lived up to expectations, and a 1-1 draw means that the tie will be decided in the second leg in Manchester on May 17th.

Manchester City’s trip to face the Champions League defending champions, Real Madrid, was a highly anticipated fixture with both teams eyeing a spot in the final at Istanbul. The winner of this tie will be the favorite to go into the final and beat either AC or Inter Milan, depending on which side wins the second semi-final meeting.
The first leg was played out in Madrid on May 9th, with the home side taking the lead through an outstanding strike from Brazilian Vinicius Jr. Manchester City had their struggles trying to contain Vinicius Jr’s speed and skill on the ball, and Benzema had a couple of opportunities to score for Madrid.
On the opposite end, Thibault Courtois had to make multiple saves to keep the visiting side at bay. Eventually, City was able to level the game with an equally impressive strike from Kevin De Bruyne from almost the same spot that Vinicius Jr had scored from in the first half.
With the Champions League 2nd Leg taking place next Wednesday, both teams will have limited time to prepare given their domestic fixtures this weekend. Let’s dive in on my Champions League score predictions and free soccer picks for the return leg.
Manchester City vs Real Madrid Line-ups & Injuries
Real Madrid were without both left back Ferland Mendy and midfielder Dani Ceballos for the first leg. Mendy is expected to make a return for the 2nd leg, while Ceballos status remains in question due to a recently sustained quad injury.
City were without center back Nathan Ake in the first leg after he was forced off in the teams 2-1 win in the Premier League over Leeds at the weekend. His status for the second leg is currently questionable.
Manchester City vs Real Madrid Prediction and Picks
Champions League semi final predictions aside, it's clear that both Manchester City and Real Madrid have potent attacking forces capable of finding the back of the net. The first leg ended in a 1-1 draw, and I expect the second leg in Manchester to be just as exciting with both teams likely to score again.
Real Madrid have been impressive in front of goal this season, scoring a total of 121 goals across all competitions, with Karim Benzema leading the way with 17 goals and Vinicius Jr not far behind with 10. In the Champions League specifically, they've scored 26 goals so far, showcasing their attacking prowess on the European stage.
Meanwhile, Manchester City have relied heavily on the sensational Erling Haaland, who has an impressive 35 league and 12 Champions League goals to his name this season. Although he had a quiet night in the first leg in Madrid, I have a feeling that he will make his presence felt in the return leg in Manchester. City have scored a total of 27 goals in the Champions League so far, and their attacking firepower will be crucial in securing a spot in the final.
The Pick: Both Teams to Score - Yes (-150)
Our soccer betting predictions for this Champions League tie included both teams scoring, and the first leg supported that outcome with some great chances from both sides. However, impressive saves from Ederson and Courtois prevented more goals from being scored.
Although Haaland didn't have a major impact in the first leg, his goal-scoring ability is undeniable, and he could still play a significant role in the second leg. I predict that City will ultimately win the game by a scoreline of 2-1, with Haaland potentially being a key factor in their victory.
Both teams have top-class forwards in Haaland and Benzema, making this an exciting and promising match for goals.
The Pick: Over 2.5 Goals (-175)
Best 2023 UEFA Champions League Semi-Final Bets Today for Manchester City vs Real Madrid Leg 2
Erling Haaland to score anytime
The goal-scoring record of Erling Haaland this season is truly remarkable, with an impressive 51 goals across all competitions. Although Real Madrid managed to keep him quiet in the first leg, stopping him again in the return fixture is a different challenge altogether.
Haaland has been an excellent addition to Pep Guardiola's attacking lineup, finishing off some of the most creative build-up play from his teammates. I am confident that he will have his opportunity to shine at home and expect him to take full advantage of it, therefore I’m kicking off my Champions League prop bets today with Haaland to score anytime.
The Pick: Erling Haaland to score anytime
Half with the most goalsAnticipate Manchester City to take charge of the second leg on their home turf and dictate the tempo early on in the game, much like they did in the first half at the Bernabeu. City will play with more confidence infront of their home crowd and control possession against Real Madrid, who will be forced to chase the game if City takes the lead.
This could potentially create openings on the counter-attack for City, who have the quality to punish Madrid if they commit too many players forward in search of a goal.
However, if Real Madrid gets an early breakthrough, the tie will be evenly poised, and City will have to push forward in the second half and take risks leaving them exposed to the pace of Vini Junior and Rodrygo.
