Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid, both coming off weekend victories in domestic play, now shift their focus back to the European campaign after Atletico won the eventful first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal matchup 2-1 last week.

Dortmund will host the Spanish powerhouse at Signal Iduna Park on Tuesday after a crucial late goal in last Wednesday’s loss at Madrid gave this team a sudden lifeline as far as its ability to advance to the semifinals.

Dortmund started that first-leg game extremely slowly. The German club had trouble passing from the back and made fundamental errors that cost it possession. Atletico took advantage of those mistakes, pressing high and scoring quickly when Rodrigo De Paul found the net just four minutes into the game.

Atletico doubled its lead around the half-hour mark. A failed clearance attempt created chaos inside Dortmund’s penalty area, allowing Atletico to capitalize. Despite dominating on offense, Dortmund struggled to break through Madrid manager Diego Simeone’s well-organized defense.

Finally, a glimmer of hope arose for Dortmund in the latter stages of the game. With just 10 minutes remaining on the clock, Sebastien Haller got on the scoresheet with an excellent finish that narrowed the deficit to just one goal and gave Dortmund a renewed sense of hope.

With a spot in the Champions League final four on the line Tuesday, this promises to be another exciting match.

Borussia Dortmund vs. Atletico Madrid Lineups and Injuries

Striker Sebastien Haller, who scored Dortmund’s only goal of the first-leg match, will miss the second with an ankle injury. Left back Ramy Bensebaini has been out since late March and isn’t expected to return until May.

Meanwhile, Atletico is missing forward Memphis Depay, who has been out for a few weeks, as well as dangerous winger Samuel Lino, will miss the matchup due to a yellow-card suspension.

Borussia Dortmund vs. Atletico Madrid Prediction, Picks, and Betting Tips

Moneyline

We will kick off these Champions League prop bets in the W/D/W market. The first leg saw Madrid manager Diego Simeone’s men play on the counterattack, breaking quickly every time they gained possession. They were quite comfortable allowing Dortmund to control the possession (66 percent), but they capitalized and threatened almost every time they broke forward.

Atletico’s Antoine Griezmann links the play so well and creates so much space for his teammates in these quick transitions from defense to attack, which creates superb goal-scoring opportunities for Alvaro Morata and Samuel Lino.

Dortmund’s offensive talent pales in comparison. With Sebastien Haller injured, the German club will turn to Niclas Fullkrug up front, but he has only one goal in nine Champions League matches this season.

Atletico should have comfortably won the first leg of this matchup, and Simeone will know that the longer the longer this game remains scoreless, the more Dortmund will have to open up on offense and push for the equalizer. This will leave space in behind for Griezmann to operate and hurt the home team. Therefore, I’m taking Atletico to win in 90 minutes.

The Pick: Atletico Madrid to win (+225)

Anytime Goalscorer

Our next Champions League best bet brings us into the Anytime Goalscorer market. Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann has six goals in nine Champions League games this season, as well as 13 in 27 La Liga matches. If Dortmund continues to make defensive errors in the second leg of this matchup, Griezmann could easily be the difference.

The Frenchman is averaging 0.67 goals per game in the Champions League this season, with 2.41 attempts on goal in the nine games he has played so far. Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel made a couple of excellent saves in the first leg, but I can see the Atletico star forward finding his way past him this time around.

The Pick: Antoine Griezmann to score (+180)
