Best NHL Player-Prop Bets: 12/19 Tage Thompson Buffalo Sabres center Tage Thompson is one of the most underrated superstars in hockey, although opposing NHL defensemen certainly have learned to fear him. The Sabres host the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday night, and Buffalo should have a field day against the Blue Jackets’ defense. Columbus allows the league’s second-most goals per game and third-most shots on goal per game this season. In a situation where Thompson is bound to have a lot of scoring chances, I expect him to find the back of the net. However, the safer play is the line for his shots on goal. Thompson has gone over his current prop total in two of his last five games.

The Pick: Tage Thompson over 3.5 shots on goal (-105)
Connor Bedard Chicago Blackhawks 18-year-old rookie sensation Connor Bedard has been a force to reckon with this season –- already performing like a seasoned superstar. While Bedard has found the back of the net just once in December, he has remained aggressive in the offensive zone and done a great job setting up teammates to score. He already has 26 points on the season, of which 14 are assists. On Tuesday night, Bedard and the ’Hawks play host to a great Colorado Avalanche team. Bedard will need to be on his A-game if Chicago wants to pull off an upset. Bedard is about to go up against one of the best teams in hockey, so I’ll take him to try to spoil the Avalanche party by finding the back of the net on Tuesday night.

The Pick: Connor Bedard anytime goalscorer (+162)
Connor McDavid Center Connor McDavid has been on a tear for the Edmonton Oilers this season with 11 goals and 30 assists for 41 points. He will look to add to those numbers on Tuesday night when the Oilers visit the New York Islanders. The Isles have not lived up to expectations this season, particularly on the defensive end. New York allows 3.23 goals per game, which is slightly above the league average. The Islanders’ overall defensive performance has clearly been lacking, because only the San Jose Sharks give up more shots on goal per game. That is no recipe for success against a lethal Edmonton Oilers offense. I think McDavid will score on Tuesday night, because he will have so many opportunities against the Islanders’ defense, but give me his over for shots on goal in this one. McDavid has gone over his current prop total in two of his last three games.

The Pick: Connor McDavid over 3.5 shots on goal (-134)
Adrian Kempe Los Angeles right wing Adrian Kempe has been in a funk for more than a month now, having scored only two goals in 13 games since Nov. 16. Luckily for Kempe and the Kings, L.A. gets to face the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday night. The Sharks allows both the NHL’s most goals and most shots on goal per game this season. In a game that will feature a lot of offensive opportunities for Los Angeles, I like Kempe to regain his scoring touch and find the back of the net.

The Pick: Adrian Kempe anytime goalscorer (+140)
