Best NHL Player-Prop Bets Today - December 21, 2023 Alex Ovechkin Future Hall of Famer Alex Ovechkin is chasing the great Wayne Gretzky’s career goal-scoring record. It will likely take Washington’s superstar winger at least the rest of this season and most of next season to catch The Great One, but Ovechkin is definitely all gas and no brakes this year. While he still has a steep hill to climb in this remarkable quest, he’ll have some help on Thursday night against a Columbus Blue Jackets defense that allows the NHL’s third-most shots on goal per game and the second-most goals per game. I certainly can see Ovechkin finding the back of the net in this one, because I expect him to be very aggressive in the offensive zone. That said, I lean toward his shots-on-goal total, because he has exceeded it in four of his last five games. He’ll look to make it five of six on Thursday night.

The Pick: Alex Ovechkin over 3.5 shots on goal (-150)
Jordan Kyrou St. Louis forward Jordan Kyrou has been a crucial part of the Blues’ offense this season. His 21 points rank third on the team and his six goals rank seventh. The Blues visit South Florida on Thursday night, and they will likely lean on Kyrou to get the job done. However, it won’t be an easy task because the Florida Panthers defense is tough and stingy. The Panthers allow the NHL’s third-fewest shots on goal per game and the fourth-fewest goals per game this season. While Kyrou has been good for the Blues, it wouldn’t be fair to call him one of league’s top offensive players. Indeed, in terms of shots on goal, he has exceeded his current prop total in only two of his last five games and will likely fail to exceed it again on Thursday night.

The Pick: Jordan Kyro under 3.5 shots on goal (-175)
Jack Eichel Thursday night’s game between the Vegas Golden Knights and Tampa Bay Lightning will be must-see TV because these two powerhouse teams always bring the electricity when they face each other. While both are elite NHL franchises, the Lightning’s defense has been suspect this season. Tampa Bay has allowed opposing skaters to have their way in the offensive zone on far too many nights. That won’t be a good look for Tampa with Las Vegas superstar Jack Eichel in town. Eichel is one of the best players in the NHL and will have a field day against the Lightning on Thursday -– something he seems to do against all opponents. The Bolts are allowing the NHL’s 14th-most shots to opposing skaters this season and will have their hands full with Eichel. Expect a big game from the Golden Knights’ leading scorer in Tampa.

The Pick: Jack Eichel over 3.5 shots on goal (-134)
Clayton Keller Arizona forward Clayton Keller has been a pivotal piece of the Coyotes’ attack this season, as he leads his team with 27 points and is third in goal-scoring with 11. The Coyotes play at San Jose on Thursday night against a Sharks team that is the NHL’s worst in virtually every statistical category. I am focusing on Keller's shots on goal in this one, because San Jose allows 36.1 shots per game- – more than any other NHL team this season. Keller has also gone over his current prop total in four of his last five games.

The Pick: Clayton Keller over 2.5 shots on goal (-143)
