Best NHL Player-Prop Bets for Thursday, December 14. 2023

Seth Jarvis The Carolina Hurricanes will bring their aggressive attacking style into Hockey Town on Thursday night to face off against the hometown Red Wings. Detroit should have its hands full with the Hurricanes, who lead the NHL with 34 shots on goal per game. Given this propensity to put pucks on net, look for ‘Canes winger Seth Jarvis to be a major source of the offense against a Red Wings defense that allows the league’s 11th-most shots per game this season. Jarvis has exceeded his current prop total in three out of his five last games and will look to do it again on Thursday night.

The Pick: Seth Jarvis over 2.5 shots on goal (+105)
Evander Kane Winger Evander Kane has been a key member of the Edmonton Oilers for quite some time and is a major reason why the team is so dangerous offensively. On Thursday night, the Oilers host a Tampa Bay Lightning team that struggles in its own zone and is allowing the NHL’s 16th-most shots on goal per game this season. The Oilers have several great offensive players, and they should all be able to get their fair share of shots on Thursday. Goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy is expected to start for the Lightning, and he will certainly make it hard for the Oilers to turn those shots into goals, but he’ll have his work cut out for him.

The Pick: Evander Kane over 2.5 shots on goal (-163)
Quinn Hughes Vancouver defenseman Quinn Hughes has been very active on the offensive end for the Canucks this season, and he leads the team in shots on goal. While all those shots have only resulted in nine total goals (fourth on the team), they certainly create chaos for the opposing defense and give Hughes’ teammates a chance to capitalize. Vancouver will host the Florida Panthers on Thursday in what is sure to be a tough test for the Canucks. I expect to see the home team play a more defensive game, and I think Hughes will focus on helping to limit opposing shots rather than constantly attacking Florida’s goal. He has gone under his current shots-on-goal prop total in four of his last five games.

The Pick: Quinn Hughes under 2.5 shots on goal (-150)
Connor Bedard A one-game road trip to his native country didn’t go as planned for rookie sensation Connor Bedard when the Chicago Blackhawks visited Edmonton on Tuesday night. Chicago lost that game 4-1, but it wasn’t a total loss for Bedard, who scored the team’s lone goal to snap his season-high five-game drought. The Blackhawks will be in Seattle on Thursday night to face a much easier opponent in the Kraken. Seattle has taken a step back this season after the Kraken’s postseason run last year had everyone assuming they would become a regular playoff team. Expect to see an aggressive Blackhawks team –- which means an aggressive Bedard –- on Thursday night in Seattle. The 18-year-old, who leads his team with 24 points, will try to get Chicago back in the win column after having exceeded his current shots-on-goal prop total in six of his last eight games.

The Pick: Connor Bedard over 2.5 shots on goal (-150)
