NBA Player Prop Bets Today for Thursday, December 14, 2023.

The entire NBA seems to be focused on the indefinite suspension handed out yesterday to Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors, who has now gone after Domantas Sabonis, Rudy Gobert and Jusuf Nurkic in this calendar year.

Sportsbooks are now mulling odds on whether Green’s next suspension will come from attacking an American player. First, of course, we have to figure how long “indefinite” is, and Green’s Golden State Warriors have to start considering the notion that their championship window may be closing.

The Warriors are +1600 on the Betway board to win the 2024 NBA championship, but they have a record of just 10-13, which has them in 11th place in the Western Conference on the outside looking in when it comes to postseason qualification. Steph Curry is still doing what he has always done, but Klay Thompson and Andrew Wiggins are slumping. The capital of uncertainty in the NBA is San Francisco, where folks have gotten spoiled by seeing their team reach the NBA Finals in six of the past nine years.

The Dubs are on national TV tonight as they entertain the Los Angeles Clippers in the nightcap of a TNT doubleheader, and we shall begin today’s player prop column by focusing on the one known commodity in that game: Curry.
Best Los Angeles Clippers vs. Golden State Warriors Player Prop Bets  Steph Curry 40+ points (+700)

Curry has gone for 40 points twice this season, but those outbursts – 41 against the Sacramento Kings in the second game of the season and 42 against the New Orleans Pelicans in the fourth game of the season – happened way back in October.

Curry had 30 or more in six of 12 November games, and 30 or more points in two of four December games. Last season prior to Dec. 14, Curry scored 40 points three times, and in the previous season he scored 40 or more four times before Dec. 14.

He is averaging 29.1 points, down three-tenths of a point from last season’s averages, and his rebounds and assists are both down significantly from last season. His team needs him as much as ever, and we expect him to be gunning more than usual tonight against the Clippers. Curry’s season-high in shot attempts is 26, and we expect that number to be surpassed tonight as he tries to put the franchise on his shoulders and silence the doubters for at least a day or two while the Green situation is sorted out.

The Pick: Steph Curry to score 40 or more points (+700).
Best Cleveland Cavaliers vs Boston Player Prop Bets  Derrick White 4+ 3-pointers (+210)

The Celtics have won five of six games and are cruising along at the top of the Eastern Conference standings. A player who is getting very little credit is newcomer Derrick White, who spent the offseason working on his 3-point shot and has upped his percentage from long distance from 38.1 percent to 42.5 percent, a career-high. White knocked down five 3-pointers two nights ago against the Cavs and six more in the previous game against the Knicks. He is playing major minutes and is finding himself open as defenses focus on Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Kristaps Porzingis, and his marksmanship lately has made him a pick-your-poison choice for opponents. We believe his hot streak from distance will continue.

The Pick: Derrick White to make at least four 3-pointers (+210).

Best Dallas Mavericks vs. Minnesota Timberwolves Player Prop Bets Dereck Lively 2+ steals (+400)

The rookie center has turned a bunch of heads this month with his rebounding and shot-blocking, and he has scored in double figures five times in seven games. Tonight, he must manage the T-Wolves’ duo of Karl-Anthony Towns and Rudy Gobert, who will be fed the ball incessantly because the Mavs are undersized and have an enormous experience deficit in the low post. Well, passes into the low post that are properly defended by a player with active hands can lead to steals. Lively had two of them last game against the Lakers when he was matched against Anthony Davis, and he is being encouraged to go after the ball before an opponent goes into his shooting motion. There are enticing lines for high point totals, block totals and rebounding totals, but the steals number has the better value. (Sometimes you need to deep dive into plyer stat prop bets)

The Pick: Dereck Lively to record at least two steals (+400).
