Best NHL Player-Prop Bets Tonight - Thursday, January 11th 2024
Sean Monahan Center Sean Monahan has been a pivotal piece of the Montreal Canadiens this season, and he has caught fire of late. With goals in his last two games, Monahan has started the new year the right way. His Canadiens team will be playing the second game of a back-to-back set on Thursday after crossing the border for a visit to Philadelphia on Wednesday night. Monahan fared well against the Flyers’ tough defense and will look to continue his aggressive offensive-zone play against the inferior San Jose Sharks blueliners. The Sharks allow the NHL’s highest number of shots per game (35.5) this season. Monahan was able to tear up a Flyers defense that has allowed the league’s seventh-fewest goals in 2023-24, so he should certainly be no match for the Sharks on Thursday night.

The Pick: Sean Monahan over 2.5 shots on goal (+120)
Auston Matthews Overall, the New York Islanders’ defense has been awful this season, and its play has put a ton of pressure on the team’s goaltenders because the Isles allow the NHL’s second-most shots on goal per game. The fact that Islanders goalies Ilya Sorokin and Semyon Varlamov each have save percentages above .900 is very impressive. Unfortunately, this team is about to go up against one of the best players in hockey on Thursday. Toronto Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews is leading the entire league with 31 goals this season. He has scored two goals over his past three games and will be looking to continue his success on the road Thursday night. While finding the back of the net can be a challenge against the Islanders’ goaltenders, Matthews should have no trouble getting scoring opportunities in this matchup. He has only gone over his current shots-on-goal prop total twice in the past five games, but I like Matthews to do it against the Islanders’ defense on Thursday night.

The Pick: Auston Matthews over 4.5 shots on goal (-118)
Sebastian Aho Carolina forward Sebastian Aho is the conductor of the Hurricanes’ offense, and he’s leading his team in goals, assists, and total points this season. The ‘Canes will host an inferior Anaheim Ducks team on Thursday night, so Aho and his teammates should be licking their chops. The Ducks allow the NHL’s fifth-most shots on goal per game this season, so expect to see the Hurricanes spend a lot of time in the Anaheim zone on Thursday night. Aho has gone over his current prop for shots in only two of his last eight games, but the Ducks’ defense is just flat-out bad, so look for Aho to have his way.

The Pick: Sebastian Aho over 2.5 shots on goal (-175)
Jack Eichel The defending Stanley Cup champion Vegas Golden Knights are quickly trending downhill after dropping seven of their last 10 games. Things haven’t gone very well in the 2024 portion of the season, either, because the Sharks are 1-3 in January and have been outscored 12-6 in that span. On Thursday night, the Knights will be visited by a talented Boston Bruins team. Vegas will need to put up goals in this game, and it will likely need a big effort from center Jack Eichel to get itself back on track. Eichel, one of the NHL’s top players, leads the Golden Knights in both points and goals this season. I expect him to be aggressive in the offensive zone against Boston, which is why I am going to target his shots on goal here. Eichel has gone over his current prop total for shots in three of his last five games, and the Bruins are allowing the NHL’s eighth-most shots in 2023-24.

The Pick: Jack Eichel over 3.5 shots on goal (-110)
