Blues vs Devils Preview

The St. Louis Blues and the New Jersey Devils will meet for the second time this season. New Jersey will be looking for a different result from their first meeting when St. Louis won 4-1. The Blues controlled the first matchup from start to finish as goaltender Jordan Binnington was a brick wall, allowing just one goal to go with 33 saves. While the final score was inflated due to two empty net goals by St. Louis, the Blues still stifled New Jersey’s stellar offense. New Jersey will look to get its offense going in round two on Thursday night as they’ll face Binnington again.

Blues vs Devils Predictions and Picks

The St. Louis Blues defense shut down the Devils offense as they held New Jersey to one goal for the first time all season back in November. Fast forward to now, it’s a mark that still doesn’t happen too often as the Devils have been held to one goal or less just 11 times this season. Binnington will get the start in net for the Blues Thursday night but this Devils offense will be eager for revenge. While Binnington has held it down for the Blues this season, it’s St. Louis’ defense as a whole that concerns me. The Blues allow the ninth most shots to opposing skaters this season which hasn’t correlated to a lot of goals allowed per game as Binnington has been that good in net. However, letting your opponent tee off on your goaltender is not a recipe for success and certainly isn’t one against a Devils offense that ranks ninth in the NHL in goals per game. Lightning doesn’t strike twice in this one as New Jersey’s offense will be alive and well in the second matchup between these two teams. Outside of Binnington and Robert Thomas, this Blues squad is a mediocre team. New Jersey gets their revenge and does it in front of their home crowd. Give me New Jersey to win in regulation.

The Pick: New Jersey Devils Win/Draw/Win (-115)

In their first matchup back in November we saw the final total get inflated towards the end with two empty net goals by the Blues. While we could certainly see something similar towards the end of this one, I’m not going to bank on it. The Blues offense isn’t that great, and while their defense isn’t that great either, as Binnington hides a lot of their flaws defensively with his elite goaltending, I’m going to lean to the under on this one. The Devils offense is going to show up in this second matchup and will not be held to one goal again. However, the Blues offense doesn’t intimidate me, and the Devils will have Nico Daws in goal on Thursday night, who’s significantly better than Schmid. New Jersey might make this total a little scary with their offense, but I’m leaning to the under here.

The Pick: Under 6.5 (-105)

Best NHL Player Prop Bets for Blues vs Devils Tonight

Robert Thomas

Center Robert Thomas is the leader of this Blues team and was the only Blues skater to represent St. Louis in the All-Star game this year. While Thomas isn’t their leader in goals, he leads the Blues in points by a mile as he’s the team’s floor general. In their first matchup against New Jersey, Thomas had one goal on just one shot. In a game that I see the Blues trailing, Thomas will have to be more aggressive, which is why I’m looking at his total shots on goal. Over his past five games, Thomas has exceeded his current prop total in three out of his five games.

The Pick: Robert Thomas over 1.5 shots on goal (-170)

Best Same Game Parlay NHL bets today for Blues vs Devils: 3-Leg Parlay Pick (+475)

PuckLineI’m going my routine route with leg number one for our same-game parlay with the New Jersey Devils on the money line. As I said above, I like the Devils to take care of business in regulation as St. Louis doesn’t match up well with New Jersey at all.

Leg-1 SGP Pick: New Jersey Devils ML (-190)

Devils GoalsNew Jersey will have their home crowd backing them and the energy will be rocking at the Prudential Center on Thursday night. St. Louis held the Devils to one goal in their previous matchup, but that will not be the case again on Thursday night. Look for New Jersey’s offense to showcase their skills against St. Louis as I can see this game getting out of hand early.

Leg-2 SGP Pick: Devils total goals over 3.5 (-120)

Robert ThomasI know typically when building same game parlays I like to stay with one team, but in this case, I’m adding in a St. Louis player to the mix and I’m going back to the well with Robert Thomas. As touched on above I like Thomas to be aggressive in this game as he won’t have much of a choice. But for this same game parlay I’m going inflate the numbers a bit, as I like Thomas to get three or more shots on goal on Thursday night. It’s a number that Thomas has only exceeded in two out of his last five games but in a game where the Blues will be trailing, I like Thomas to step up with his team’s back against the wall.

Leg-3 SGP Pick: Robert Thomas 3+ shots on goal (+175)
