The Los Angeles Kings and Nashville Predators meet for the second of three times this season on Wednesday night in Nashville, just two weeks removed from their last meeting on Jan. 18 in Los Angeles. The Predators won the previous game 2-1 on a night when all three goals were scored in the second period. Both teams are well above .500 in the NHL’s Western Conference and are tied in the standings with 54 points apiece. With both teams in the playoff hunt and TNT’s national TV audience tuning in, this Wednesday night matchup should be an intriguing one.

Kings at Predators Preview

The Los Angeles Kings took a big hit a month ago when goaltender Pheonix Copley suffered an ACL injury that required season-ending surgery. Copley had been a major factor in net and played so well in 2022-23 that Los Angeles was willing to part ways with longtime goalie Jonathan Quick. The Kings have been forced to adjust to this injury, and they have regrouped to the point where they plan to rely on the netminding tandem of Cam Talbot and David Rittich for the remainder of the season. Nashville, on the other hand, has been spared the injury bug in recent weeks and will have its full roster available at home on Wednesday, when the Predators go for their second win over the Kings after having beaten them in Los Angeles earlier this month.

Kings vs. Predators Predictions and Picks

Even though Los Angeles is missing injured goalie Pheonix Copley, and even though goaltender Cam Talbot has struggled in his most recent starts, the Kings are still one of the NHL’s best defensive teams. Los Angeles has allowed the league’s fifth-fewest goals and third-fewest shots per game this season. Offensively, the Kings have also been up to par and are right in the middle of the NHL pack when it comes to goal-scoring.

Although injuries have been partly to blame for the Kings’ recent misfortunes (2-5-3 in their last 10 games), this team certainly needs to improve on offense if it wants to keep its Stanley Cup dreams alive. Los Angeles has lost 15 one-goal games this season, even though the Kings played well defensively on most of those nights.

Because of their inability to score, however, the Kings couldn’t come out on top in any of those defeats. On the other hand, Nashville has a more balanced team, and that approach to playing hard at both ends of the ice has paid off for the Predators, who are in playoff contention even if they don’t have the talent to contend for the Stanley Cup just yet.

The Kings’ offense will be the biggest question mark going into this game, but if Los Angeles regains its scoring touch, then it should have no problem leaving Nashville with a win. The Kings contained this Predators offense for two of the three periods in their last meeting on Jan. 18, when Nashville scored both of its goals in the middle 20 minutes. I expect to see a similar, low-scoring affair on Wednesday, and I expect the Kings to better capitalize on their opportunities this time.

The Pick: Los Angeles Kings ML (-120)

When these teams met two weeks ago, they staged a defensive battle, and I expect that to be the case again in this game. The Kings have made a statement in 2023-24 with a group of pesky defensmen who make it very difficult for opponents to generate good scoring chances. Since they held the Predators off the scoreboard for two periods of that last matchup, I can see the Kings being just as effective in their own zone here. Both teams have struggled offensively at times this season, so a high-scoring game is likely off the table. When you match up those inconsistent offenses against a Kings defense that allows the NHL’s third-fewest shots on goal and an outstanding goaltender in Nashville’s Juuse Saros, you really have to love the under here.

The Pick: Under 6.5 (-140)

Best NHL Player-Prop Bets for Kings vs. Predators

Adrian Kempe

The Los Angeles Kings have been struggling to score goals, and the time for them to get things going is now – in their final game before the NHL All-Star break. This is a problem that Los Angeles desperately needs to solve, and if anyone can get the job done on Wednesday in Nashville, it’s Kings winger Adrian Kempe, who leads his team with 43 points and is arguably Los Angeles’ most talented forward. Kempe was held scoreless when the Kings lost to the Predators on Jan. 18, but that should change on Wednesday because Kempe has found the back of the net in two of his last three games. The Predators’ defensemen are relatively average and rely heavily on goaltender Juuse Saros to bail them out. I expect Kempe to score a goal in this game, but even if he doesn’t, I expect him to be aggressive in the offensive zone. Kempe has exceeded his current prop total for shots in just two of his last five games, but he will get it done here.

The Pick: Adrian Kempe over 3.5 shots on goal (+105)

Best NHL Same-Game Parlay Bets Today for Kings vs. Predators: 3-Leg Parlay Pick (+350)

Total Goals As is the case with most of my same-game parlays, I’m going to start this one off with a play on the overall game. I feel that the Kings should come out on top, but their recent offensive struggles have me slightly worried. On the other hand, I love the under in this situation, because both teams have struggled offensively, and the Kings are stout defensively. Let’s not forget that when these teams last met on Jan. 18, no goals were scored in two of the three periods.

Leg-1 SGP Pick: Under 6.5 (-150)

Predators Goals I’m getting a little creative here as far as this same-game parlay goes, but I really think the Predators will struggle in this matchup. When Nashville played the Kings in L.A. earlier this month, their only goals came in the second period. The Preds were completely shut out in both the first and third.

Leg-2 SGP Pick: Predators under 1.5 goals (+340)

Money Line While this pick doesn’t blow me away or even get me terribly excited, I do think the Los Angeles Kings will win on Wednesday night, thanks to a strong defense that will keep them in this game. The final outcome will really just depend on how well the Kings perform in the offensive zone.

Leg-3 SGP Pick: Los Angeles Kings ML (-125)
