Milwaukee will be playing its second game under new coach Doc Rivers. He replaced Adrian Griffin as the Bucks made the first coaching change of the season in the NBA despite being in second place in the East. They added Lillard and 3-point specialist Malik Beasley in the offseason in an effort to build a superteam, and they go into Wednesday night’s games with the fourth-best record in the entire NBA. This is the first game of the night, and perhaps the worst. The Hornets are in full tank mode after trading Terry Rozier to the Miami Heat for a bag of hammers, and the Bulls are on the second night of a back-to-back after getting beaten at home by the Raptors last night, allowing Toronto to snap a five-game losing streak. The last time the Hornets played at home, the building was almost devoid of Charlotte fans, as followers of the New York Knicks scooped up the tickets and serenaded the visiting team with a loud “Let’s Go Knicks” chant. Hornets point guard LaMelo Ball is doubtful with right ankle tendinitis, forward Miles Bridges is probable with a left elbow contusion, forward Gordon Hayward is out with a calf strain and center Mark Williams is out with a lower back injury. The Cavs have won 13 of their last 14 games and just got Evan Mobley back, and Darius Garland is expected back any day from a broken jaw. They have been playing terrific without those two, and Donovan Mitchell is coming off a 12-assist game against the Clippers in which the Cavs won convincingly. The Pistons are the worst team in the NBA (6-40) but are coming off a victory over Oklahoma City in which they got 49 points from their bench players. If coach Monty Williams goes that deep into his bench again tonight, the Cavs should be easily able to cover the 12.5-point spread. They are a machine right now that is not getting a ton of publicity, in part because the team ahead of them, the Knicks, have won eight in a row.

Detroit point guard Cade Cunningham is listed as probable with left knee injury management. He had not played in 20 games before returning last Saturday against Washington. Center Isiah Stewart is out with a sprained left ankle. Cleveland’s Darius Garland is listed as questionable as he recovers from a fractured jaw, and now may be the time to bring him back slowly as the schedule brings three straight patsies in the Pistons, Grizzlies and Spurs.
