Best NHL Bets Today: Odds, Picks and Predictions for Tuesday, January 31st

Capitals vs Blue Jackets Odds, Spread, Moneyline, Over/Under - NHL Betting Lines 1/31 Moneyline: Washington Capitals (-215), Columbus Blue Jackets (+175)
Puck line: Washington Capitals -1.5 (+120), Columbus Blue Jackets +1.5 (-140)
Total: Over/Under 6.5 goals
Capitals vs Blue Jackets Predictions and Pick Both teams will look to make an impact Tuesday night as this will be the last game before the All-Star break for both of them. Both teams have had quite the disappointing January and a win Tuesday night would be a great way to end the mid-season on a high note.

Darcy Kuemper will take the goal for the Capitals Tuesday night as he’ll look to redeem himself after allowing four goals on 20 shots Sunday in their 1-5 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Joonas Korpisalo will take the goal for Columbus Tuesday night, and he wasn’t much better as in his last outing he allowed five goals on 34 shots in a 2-5 loss to the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday.

Both goalies have been quite disappointing in January as Kuemper has allowed more than four goals in a game four times this month, while Korpisalo has allowed more than four goals three times this month including six goals allowed to Carolina earlier in the month. While that trend would make you think about taking the over in this one, the Blue Jackets inability to score is a real problem as they scored two goals or less eight times this month including three games with one goal and two games with zero goals. The Capitals will handle the Blue Jackets on Tuesday night who allow the second most shots on goal in the NHL this season. Give me the Capitals to win in regulation.

The Pick: Washington Capitals Exclude OT (-130)

Senators vs Canadiens Odds, Spread, Moneyline, Over/Under - NHL Betting Lines 1/31 Moneyline: Ottawa Senators (-205), Montreal Canadiens (+165)
Puck line: Ottawa Senators -1.5 (+130), Montreal Canadiens +1.5 (-150)
Total: Over/Under 6.5 goals
Senators vs Canadiens Predictions These two teams know each other very well as they faced each other four times in the pre-season and once already this season. While pre-season doesn’t matter or count, the Senators have one every single game against the Canadiens this season including both matchups with one back in December in which Ottawa won 3-2 and most recently on Saturday where Ottawa won 5-0.

Jake Allen will take his shot in goal against Ottawa Tuesday night as his teammate, Sam Montembeault is 0-2 in goal against Ottawa this season. As for Ottawa’s goalie, Anton Forsberg, he’ll get the goal again on Tuesday night as he shutout the Canadiens on Saturday in a 5-0 win with 28 saves. Saturday’s shutout was Forsberg's third of the season.

The Canadiens have pulled some upsets this season but when it comes to defense, they’re absolutely dreadful as they allow the 28th most shots on goal this year. While Ottawa’s offense is slightly below the league’s average, they always seem to have a good scoring outing against the Canadiens. The Senators take care of the Canadiens again and do so once again in regulation.

The Pick: Ottawa Senators Exclude OT (-115)

Kings vs Hurricanes Odds, Spread, Moneyline, Over/Under - NHL Betting Lines 1/31 Moneyline: Los Angeles Kings (+170) Carolina Hurricanes (-210)
Puck line: Los Angeles Kings +1.5 (-150), Carolina Hurricanes -1.5 (+130)
Total: Over/Under 6 goals
Kings vs Hurricanes Predictions and Pick While the other two games on Tuesday night’s NHL slate may get out of hand quickly, the Kings and Hurricanes should be a good matchup before the NHL breaks for All-Star weekend. Both teams’ aces will take the goal as Phoenix Copley for the Kings and Frederik Anderson for the Hurricanes have both been phenomenal this season allowing less than three goals a game and both only having three losses. Part of their success in goal is due to both of their team’s stellar defense. Carolina allows the fewest shots on goal in the NHL, while the Kings allow the sixth fewest.

On the offensive side, both teams have had their fair share of good offensive outings, but rank just above the league average in scoring as defense is their true strength. In a game right before the break where both teams are looking to end on a high note, give me the under in this one.

The Pick: Under 6 (-115)
