The Detroit Lions will host their first home playoff game since January 8, 1994 when they hosted the Green Bay Packers. The Packers would win that game in the fourth quarter on a 40-yard Brett Favre touchdown to win 28-24. The Lions, who have lost eight straight playoff games, are hoping for a different outcome on Sunday night. As for the Los Angeles Rams, they’ve had success in postseason play in recent years, but the spotlight will be on quarterback Matt Stafford who returns to Ford Field since his departure from Detroit back in 2021.

Rams vs Lions Preview

The Los Angeles Rams will travel to Detroit where they’ll take on the Lions on Sunday night where all eyes will be on this game. Featuring the highest total of the NFL Wild Card Weekend, not only is the narrative of Stafford vs. Goff and Stafford returning to Detroit stealing the weekend, but both of these offenses could as well. In what will be a great primetime matchup between two teams, the last time these two teams faced we saw 47 total points with not as good of offenses. Let’s dive into what will be a great matchup on Sunday night.

Rams vs Lions Predictions and Picks

This game is certainly going to be one of the more exciting games of the NFL Wild Card Weekend as this matchup also holds the most upset value or upset potential compared to the other five Wild Card matchups. Both of these offenses rank inside the top 10 in scoring and while both defenses have shown us good games, it could very well come down to who has the ball last wins. I’ve loved the story of the Lions this season, coming out on opening night and upsetting the Kansas City Chiefs and then starting the season off 5-1 and then 6-2 heading into their bye week. Though, they cooled down in the second half of the season and exposed some flaws. As for the Rams, they heated up in the second half of the season winning seven of their last eight games. In a game where both teams are fairly even across the board I like the Rams to upset here as they have the Super Bowl experience, the better head coach in Sean McVay and plenty of talent across the board.

The Pick: Los Angeles Rams (+140)

The last two times these teams played each other they combined for 47 points. But there was no Puka Nacua paired with Cooper Kupp at the wide receiver position and no Amon-Ra St. Brown, Sam LaPorta and Jahmyr Gibbs at the Lions disposal on offense. But now there is, and both teams have scored a lot of points this season with those weapons. The Rams are the 8th highest scoring team this season while the Lions are the 5th highest scoring team this season. Both teams have defensive stars, but not enough to stop both offenses. In a game where I’m expecting the last team that gets the ball to win, I’m expecting a lot of points as a result.

The Pick: Over 51.5 (-110)

Best NFL Player Prop Bets for Rams vs Lions: NFL Wild Card Weekend

Matthew Stafford

Whether in Detroit or Los Angeles, quarterback Matthew Stafford has always been known for his gunslinging numbers and his ability to move the ball with his arm. The Lions do not defend the pass well, as they’ve allow the 6th most passing yards to opposing offenses this season. Stafford has exceeded his current prop total in four out of his last five games. Look for Stafford to take advantage of an inferior Lions secondary on Sunday night and make a statement in his return to Ford Field.

The Pick: Matthew Stafford over 274.5 passing yards (-115)

Best Same Game Parlay NFL Wild Card Weekend today for Rams vs Lions: 3-Leg Parlay Pick (+265)

Matthew Stafford This game is going to be a shootout and I’ll have my popcorn popped and ready for it. Stafford has had two or more passing touchdowns in five of his last six games, and the Lions 27th ranked pass defense will not be the one to slow him down.

Leg-1 SGP Pick: Matthew Stafford 2+ Passing Touchdowns (-155)

Jared Goff Quarterback Jared Goff has certainly lit up opposing defenses through the air this season as he has 30 total passing touchdowns. The only issue is he’s failed to do it consistently. While game plan and game flow certainly play a role in this outcome, some of it has been on Goff. Leading Detroit’s first home game since the 1990’s, Goff is going to have to show up in this one.

Leg-2 SGP Pick: Jared Goff 2+ Passing Touchdowns (-130)

Total We’re going to keep this same game parlay as a conservative play. With a lot of scoring expected, this game could go many ways. I believe it’ll be through both starting quarterbacks, and it’ll come with a lot of points. So, we’ll go with an alternate total to close out this same game parlay.

Leg-3 SGP Pick: Over 51.5 (-120)
