The Jets defense will challenge him, but I think he’ll have a lot of success on Monday night. Through seven games. Herbert has thrown for multiple touchdowns four times. In two of those four games, he has had three TD passes. I think he will do it for the third time this season on Monday, and I like Herbert to throw for three or more touchdowns to kick off this same-game parlay.

Leg-1 SGP Pick: Justin Herbert 3+ Passing Touchdowns (+260)

Keenan AllenChargers wide Receiver Keenan Allen was hot at the start of the season and had a total of 402 receiving yards through his first three games. In recent weeks, the targets have been there but the stats have not. No worries, however, because Allen will have a bounce-back game on Monday night, and quarterback Justin Herbert is going to need him against this Jets defense. Look for Herbert to get Allen involved early, since this duo will be the engine that powers the Chargers on Monday night.

When the 2023 NFL schedule was initially released, this Monday Night Football matchup between the Los Angeles Chargers and New York Jets was one of those games fans certainly identified as must-see television. However, the potential season-ending injury suffered by Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers in Week 1 – and the team’s resulting record – has turned this into a more ordinary Monday night game. Nevertheless, emotions and tensions will still be high for this matchup that closes out Week 9, and fans can never discount the potential for exciting NFL football on any given Monday.

The Chargers and Jets will close out Week 9 of the 2023 NFL season on Monday night under the bright lights of MetLife Stadium. It has been a very exciting week for the league, and there is a lot on the line for the teams in this game. Both the Chargers and Jets need wins to keep their playoff hopes alive, so this game will make for a great showdown even though Jets QB Aaron Rodgers can’t be part of it due to his Achilles tendon injury. New York’s defense has been a problem for opponents all season long, and it will look to cause trouble for quarterback Justin Herbert and the Chargers on Monday night. On the other side of the ball, it now appears that Jets quarterback Zach Wilson has more control of New York’s offense as he goes after a third straight win at MetLife Stadium and fourth in a row overall.

Chargers vs. Jets Predictions and Picks

The New York Jets defense is certainly the real deal. It has kept this season intact for the Jets despite the Week 1 loss of quarterback Aaron Rodgers. However, there is no reason or explanation for why the Chargers should be favored by only 3.5 points in this game. Los Angeles has the better team, and it’s not even close. The Jets’ defense will be a factor in this game, but Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert will be able to steer through it and lead his team on several great drives. The Chargers’ defense is definitely the team’s weak spot, but the Jets’ offense has been in turmoil ever since Rodgers went down, so it is essentially a non-factor. Look for the Chargers to control this game from start to finish and cruise to an easy victory.

The Pick: Los Angeles Chargers -3.5 (-105)

The Jets rank sixth in the entire NFL when it comes to fewest points allowed. However, the Chargers’ offense will be a true test for New York’s defense, and I see Los Angeles having a field day at MetLife on Monday night. The Chargers’ defense will not be tested in this one, and the visitors will have no difficulty putting points on the board. The Jets, meanwhile, should be able to score at least 10 points, because I don’t see the Chargers defense as a threat. Take advantage of a buy-low spot on the total here.

Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert is enjoying another phenomenal season, and he’ll look to continue that success on Monday night. Herbert will face a tough test against a New York Jets defense that allows the sixth-fewest passing yards to opposing quarterbacks this season. Herbert faced a similar defense against the Dallas Cowboys in an earlier Monday night game on Oct. 16 and was able to find success -- throwing for 227 yards and two touchdowns. While the Jets certainly pose a threat to all opposing quarterbacks, Herbert will be able to handle them. That’s why his passing yards are my favorite player-prop on Monday night. In seven games, Herbert has broken this prop total four times.
