2023 NFL Regular Season Game
Baltimore Ravens (3-1) vs. Pittsburgh Steelers (2-2)
Date: Sunday, Oct. 8
Time: 1 p.m. ET
Venue: Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh, Pa.
TV Channel: CBS
Live Stream: NFL+

The Baltimore Ravens will face the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday at Acrisure Stadium in a highly anticipated AFC North showdown. Currently sitting atop the division at 3-1, the Ravens are hoping to continue their early dominance against a longtime rival. Meanwhile, the Steelers have struggled hugely on offense this season, but they have still managed to put together two wins for a .500 record at 2-2.

Ravens at Steelers Preview

Injuries have severely impacted the Baltimore Ravens' defense this season, as key players such as linebackers David Ojabo and Odafe Oweh, as well as defensive backs Marcus Williams and Marlon Humphrey have been either on Injured Reserve or sidelined. As a result, Baltimore has had to lean heavily on its offense to win games.

The Ravens offense is led by 2019 NFL MVP Lamar Jackson and new offensive coordinator Todd Monken. The team’s lone 2023 loss came in an overtime game against the Colts in Week 3. Having already beaten the Bengals and Browns, the Ravens are now looking to stay perfect against AFC North teams by beating the Steelers.

For their part, the Steelers have concerns about the fitness of quarterback Kenny Pickett, who injured his knee last weekend at Houston. The hope is that Pickett will recover in time to play against the Ravens on Sunday, but if he is unable, then the Steelers will be forced to go with Mitch Trubisky as their QB.

In the Ravens’ 30-6 loss to the Texans, Trubisky completed only three passes for 18 yards after replacing the injured Pickett. Trubisky has demonstrated that he might not have what it takes to be an NFL starting quarterback over the course of a full season. Nevertheless, even if he does start, that doesn’t necessarily hurt the Steelers’ chances of beating the Ravens, because Trubisky is a serviceable backup.

The biggest challenge for the Steelers on Sunday will be kick-starting this season’s offense. The Steelers currently rank 25th in the NFL in points per game. They have gained the league’s fourth-fewest yards and had gained the fewest first downs of any NFL team through Week 4. Given the news that offensive coordinator Matt Canada will remain as the team’s play-caller moving forward, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin can only hope for a dramatic improvement in the offense’s performance level this week.

Baltimore Ravens vs. Pittsburgh Steelers Predictions and NFL Picks Week 5

Unfortunately for Steelers fans, I think the tide will turn in favor of the Ravens on Sunday. Lamar Jackson is proving that he is a top-five NFL quarterback with eight touchdowns through four weeks -- four on the ground and four through the air. Although he has looked shaky at times -- and this Pittsburgh defense is very good -- Jackson is talented enough to get the Ravens past a Steelers team that could struggle if Kenny Pickett is inactive.

The Pick: Ravens -4 (-110)

2023 NFL Regular Season Game
Tennessee Titans (2-2) vs. Indianapolis Colts (2-2)
Date: Sunday, Oct. 8
Time: 1 p.m.  ET
Venue: Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind.
TV Channel: CBS
Live Stream: NFL+

The Tennessee Titans meet the Indianapolis Colts in an AFC South clash at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis on Sunday. Both teams are currently 2-2, so this game could play an important role in determining the division’s final standings, particularly since all AFC South teams are now tied with 2-2 records.

Moneyline: Tennessee Titans (-130), Indianapolis Colts (+110)
Spread: Titans -2 (-110), Colts +2 (-110)

Titans at Colts Preview

The King is back! Or so it seems anyway. Tennessee running back Derrick Henry turned back the clock for the Titans with a vintage display against Cincinnati last weekend. Henry had 22 carries for 122 yards and a touchdown in his most impressive display so far this season. He also led the way as the Titans beat the visiting Bengals 27-3. Henry silenced his critics with that performance, and he’ll be looking to build on it against the Colts’ 14th-ranked run defense. Indianapolis has conceded at least 100 rushing yards to running backs in three of four games this season and might struggle yet again against the King.

The Colts have started out much better than anyone expected with Anthony Richardson already looking like the real deal as an NFL starting quarterback. Indianapolis was unlucky in its 29-23 overtime loss to the Rams last weekend, and the Colts will be looking to bounce back with a victory over the Titans.

One big positive for the Colts is that running back Jonathon Taylor is eligible to come off the PUP list and could potentially play this weekend. Who knows who will win this game of chicken between management and Taylor (who wants to be traded), but it might not even matter if he plays, because the Titans are very good against the run. Richardson will need to showcase his throwing arm and chemistry with No.1 receiver Michael Pittman – as well as his scrambling ability -- if the Colts expect to win this game.

Titans vs. Colts Predictions and NFL Picks Week 5

The Titans looked like a different team in Week 4. That might have been either because they were playing the struggling Bengals or because they’ve figured it out offensively. No matter the reason, Tennessee was impressive.

Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill completed 18 of 25 passes for 240 yards and a touchdown against Cincinnati. Those numbers and Derrick Henry's outstanding performance, were a recipe for success. When Henry plays well, the Titans usually win, and that’s my prediction for Sunday. It’s hard to go against the King.

The Pick: Titans Moneyline (-130)

2023 NFL Regular Season Game
Carolina Panthers (0-4) vs Detroit Lions (3-1)
Date: Sunday, Oct. 8
Time: 1 p.m. ET
Venue: Ford Field in Detroit, Mich.
TV Channel: FOX
Live Stream: NFL+

The 0-4 Carolina Panthers take on the 3-1 Detroit Lions at Ford Field on Sunday. As was expected, the Panthers have struggled this season with rookie quarterback Bryce Young as their starter. While it is clearly in a rebuilding phase, Carolina has displayed flashes of potential. The Lions, meanwhile, ran all over the Packers last Thursday at Green Bay, as running back David Montgomery found the end zone three times. The Packers will look to keep their momentum going against a weak Panthers team that is struggling to put points on the board.

Panthers vs. Lions Odds, Spread, Moneyline, Over/Under - NFL Betting Lines Week 5

Moneyline: Carolina Panthers (+350), Detriot Lions (-450)
Spread: Panthers +9.5 (-110), Lions -9.5 (-110)
Total: Over/Under 44.5 points

Panthers at Lions Preview

The Lions are playing at home under the dome this weekend. In two home games so far in 2023, Detroit quarterback Jared Goff has a passer rating of 105.4 with 566 yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions. There is a noticeable difference in Goff's performance when he plays at home, where he appears comfortable and in control.

The addition of second-year wideout Jameson Williams has been huge for Goff and the Lions. Temper your expectations as far as Williams receiving many targets, but his presence and ability to stretch the field should create more space for his fellow Lions receivers.

On the other side of the ball, Lions defensive end Aidan Hutchinson should have a field day chasing Carolina rookie QB Bryce Young. In his last game against the Packers, Hutchinson managed 1.5 sacks, one tackle-for-loss, and three quarterback hits. Young has plenty of cause for concern. He was sacked five times by the Vikings last Sunday, but the Lions pose a greater threat.

One positive for the Panthers has been seeing 33-year-old wide receiver Adam Thielen roll back the years to become the team’s most reliable receiving option. The Lions are ranked seventh in the NFL against the run, so a good game from Thielen will be crucial if Young and the Panthers want to put points on the board.

Panthers vs. Lions Predictions and NFL Picks Week 5

The Lions are clearly the better team and should easily cover their line, even if it's on the larger side. With Bryce Young starting at quarterback, the Panthers have yet to score more than 17 points in a game.

Facing the Lions will be Carolina’s toughest challenge yet. In Week 3, Detroit held the Falcons and quarterback Desmond Ridder to just six points, and it did not allow QB Jordan Love and the Packers to score any touchdowns during the first half of last week’s game. The Lions should make easy work of the Panthers in this Week 5 matchup.

The Pick: Lions -9.5 (-110)

2023 NFL Regular Season Game
New Orleans Saints (2-2) vs New England Patriots (1-3)
Date: Sunday, Oct. 8
Time: 1 p.m. ET
Venue: Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass.
TV Channel: CBS
Live Stream: NFL+

The New Orleans Saints (2-2) travel north to Foxborough to take on the 1-3 New England Patriots on Sunday. There’s no denying that the Patriots have struggled so far this season, with their only win coming in Week 3 against the New York Jets. Patriots quarterback Mac Jones was even benched last week at Dallas. New England will look to turn its fortunes around against a Saints team coming off back-to-back losses.

It's difficult to pinpoint exactly when things started to go wrong for this season’s Saints after their 2-0 start, but the turning point seems to be quarterback Derek Carr’s shoulder injury. Despite surprising many by managing to play against the Buccaneers last week, Carr clearly wasn't his usual self and averaged just 3.4 yards per throw. Carr should play again in New England as his team tries to prevent its sudden losing streak from getting any longer.

Saints vs. Patriots Odds, Spread, Moneyline, Over/Under - NFL Betting Lines Week 5

Moneyline: New Orleans Saints (+350), New England Patriots (-450)
Spread: Saints +9.5 (-110), Patriots -9.5 (-110)
Total: Over/Under 40.5 points

Saints at Patriots Preview

New England head coach Bill Belichick has said that quarterback Mac Jones is still his starter, but it’s hard to ignore the pressure mounting against the status quo. Unfortunately, Jones’ life won’t get any easier in Week 5, because New Orleans’ defense is the NFL’s fifth-best. Most of that success is due to strong performances against opposition running games, so there’s still a chance for Jones to be a difference-maker and keep his job.

This matchup will be tough for Patriots running back Rhamondre Stevenson, who has not rushed for more than 60 yards in a game this season. He still got far more carries than veteran Ezekiel Elliot last week, but Patriots fans want more production from their young star running back. A rejuvenated Stevenson might be the key to unlocking this Patriots offense.

On the Saints’ side, there is concern over the quarterback situation. Backup QB Jameis Winston’s lone passing attempt last Sunday against Tampa Bay was intercepted. If the Saints want to return to winning, they’ll need a completely healthy Derek Carr.

Carr catches a break this week, because the Patriots will be without cornerback Christian Gonzalez and linebacker Matthew Judon, who are arguably the two best players on New England’s defense but are both out long-term with injuries. The Pats have reacquired cornerback J.C. Jackson in a trade with the Chargers, but the loss of Gonzalez and Judon is a big blow for Belichick’s team.

Saints vs. Patriots Predictions and NFL Picks Week 5

This matchup screams mediocrity. Both teams are going to struggle offensively against very strong defenses. Neither team has scored more than 20 points in a game this season, and it doesn’t seem like that will change this week. I’m predicting a low-scoring defensive slog and taking the under.

The Pick: Total Points Under 40.5 (-120)
