Brooklyn Nets vs. Boston Celtics Player-Prop Bets for Friday, Nov. 10, 2023

The Brooklyn Nets and Boston Celtics have not liked each other ever since Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett got dumped on Brooklyn late in their careers, helping the Celtics obtain many of the draft picks they used to build their current dominant team.

These teams meet Friday night for the second time this season in a game that kicks off ESPN’s doubleheader. The first meeting on Nov. 4 resulted in a 124-114 Boston victory. We are using that game as our baseline for the following predictions, because nothing much has changed for either team since then.

Boston is favored by 12½ points.

Jrue Holiday, double-double

Boston’s starting point guard finished one rebound shy of a triple-double the last time these teams met. He was clearly stoked at the prospect of playing against the Nets’ Spencer Dinwiddie, who is not the offensively gifted player he once was but still must be both a playmaker and scorer for this revamped Brooklyn team. Jrue Holiday had 24 points and 10 assists in that last game, and we can see him duplicating those numbers on Friday. For bold folks out there who want to see that triple-double, you take that risk at your own peril, because the line for that is +2500.

The Pick: Jrue Holiday, double-double (+370)

Jayson Tatum, 35 or more points

Boston’s Jayson Tatum wants to be in the MVP conversation, and he isn’t there yet. He deserved to be, but the 18-point clunker he put up Wednesday night vs. Philadelphia did not help his case. Tatum had scored at least 30 in five of the previous six games, including a season-high 34 on opening night. He will likely be guarded by some combination of Dorian Finney-Smith and Mikal Bridges, and he is capable of roasting either one even though both are above-average defenders. We like a new season-high for Tatum tonight.

The Pick: Jayson Tatum to score at least 35 points. (+370)

Kristaps Porzingis, 25+ points

Celtics center Kristaps Porzingis scored 30 points in Boston’s season-opener and has not gotten back to that number, although he did have 29 against the 76ers on Wednesday and had scored 20 and 22 over the previous two games. Both teams will be very well-rested after a light week with no games Tuesday and only two on Thursday, and we are expecting a track meet. If Porzingis avoids foul trouble (he had nine combined in the previous two games), he should get to this number. For the bold among you, 30-plus points is priced at +700.

The Pick: Kristaps Porzingis to score at least 25 points (+240)

Dorian Finney-Smith, double-double

This fellow has his work cut out for him at both ends of the floor, but every coach that Brooklyn’s Dorian Finney-Smith has ever played for raves about his work ethic. The trick will be avoiding foul trouble when defending the Celtics’ Jayson Tatum, but coach Jacque Vaughn will need to lean on Finney-Smith for heavy minutes. The last time these teams played, he had 14 points and eight rebounds in 37 minutes. He should be able to get two additional boards on Friday, and this price is very nice.

The Pick: Dorian Finney-Smith to record a double-double (+450)
