Are we going to see Joel Embiid go for 70 again? Or something better? The big man’s odds have dropped to a minus number in the MVP futures market following his spectacular performance Tuesday night when he dropped 70. Tonight, he and the 76ers face the Indiana Pacers before Celtics-Heat and Kings-Warriors makes up the TNT doubleheader.

NBA Player Props Tonight for Thursday, January 25, 2024

Tyrese Maxey 35+ points

Embiid is only +145 to score 40 or more, pretty much because everyone wants to bet him tonight. We are going to think differently and go with a player, Tyrese Maxey, who had his season-high of 50 against the Pacers earlier this season and is the runaway leader for Most Improved Player. He has had 15, 30-point games this season but has scored under 20 points in back-to-back games for only the second time this season. If you want to take a chance on Maxey reaching 40, that line is +675. But he has only done it twice all season.

The Pick: Tyrese Maxey to score at least 35 points (+260)

Kyle Kuzma triple-double

Do not be surprised if this is one of Kuzma’s final games with the Wizards. His name is prevalent in trade chatter, and although the Wizards would rather trade Jordan Poole, Kuzma is the guy that can bring back the most value. He nearly had his first triple-double of the season last night against Minnesota with 17 points, 14 rebounds and eight assists against their towering front line. His usage rate will be extremely high tonight because the Wizards want him playing his best to drive up his trade value, so look for his minutes to increase from last night’s 35.

The Pick: Kyle Kuzma to have a triple-double (+2500)

Rudy Gobert 20+ rebounds

He has reached this number twice this season and he had 18 boards last night as the Wolves’ size advantage forced Washington center Daniel Gafford to the bench early in the third quarter with his fifth foul. Claxton is coming off a season-high 17-reound performance against a Knicks team that was without a true center, so this is going to be a different animal. The Wolves should get plenty of scoring from Anthony Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns and we  figure Gobert gets a couple extra boards on the defensive end with the Nets shooting so horribly lately. He had seven offensive boards last night.

The Pick: Rudy Gobert to have at least 20 rebounds (+625)

Harrison Barnes 15+ points

Barnes broke the 20-point mark on Monday for only the third time all season (two of those games have been in the 30s, including on Opening Night). It appeared the Kings were running plays specifically for him, which is not something you usually do with a struggling player. The Kings are a team that need to make a move at the trade deadline to bring in another starter, and showcasing Barnes by running plays for him is one way to boost his value. He makes $17 million and is under contract for two more years, so the Kings would have to include one of their young players and several draft picks to get off that contract. They most certainly can try since they are in “win now” mode and were not able to get Terry Rozier (dealt to Miami) or Pascal Siakam (dealt to Indiana) or OG Anunoby (dealt to New York). It would not surprise us if they go hard after Kuzma.

The Pick: Harrison Barnes to score 15 or more points. (+390)
