The Philadelphia 76ers’ struggles continued Wednesday night, as the team fell away in the second half of a 127-104 home loss to the Golden State Warriors. Without injured Joel Embiid, the Sixers were exposed around the rim, enabling the Warriors’ Jonathan Kuminga to cut through the defense like butter on multiple occasions.

None of the Sixers’ starters scored more than 15 points against Golden State before they were all pulled in the fourth quarter. Philly has now lost seven of its last eight games, and the team’s struggles without Embiid are both obvious and significant.

On Friday night, the Sixers host Atlanta, which had a nice run coming into early February. From Jan. 28 to Feb. 3, the Hawks won four straight games against the Raptors, Suns, Lakers, and Warriors. However, they have dropped their last two games since then. That included a 144-point performance against the Los Angeles Clippers, a team that would crush Philadelphia in its current state.

The Sixers made multiple deals at the NBA trade deadline and even sent developing talent Jaden Springer to Boston in a head-scratcher. Trading him at all seemed strange, but to the rival Celtics? That was just bizarre.

Their biggest deal on trade-deadline day, however, saw them add Buddy Hield, one of the league's most proven shooters from 3-point range. The former Indiana Pacers guard is not expected to play against Atlanta on Friday, but he will look to make a major impact for Philadelphia over the rest of the season.

With all that in mind, let’s make some NBA same-game parlay predictions for this Eastern Conference matchup between the Atlanta Hawks and Philadelphia 76ers.

Atlanta Hawks vs. Philadelphia 76ers Injury Report

Philadelphia center Joel Embiid’s absence continues to be the main story for the 76ers, as the MVP candidate is now set to miss several weeks following a procedure on his knee performed earlier this week.

Philadelphia has also been without guard De’Anthony Melton and veteran forwards Robert Covington and Nicolas Batum. The Sixers have also traded away both Jaden Springer and Furkan Korkmaz, so they will be on a tight rotation Friday night.

Center Clint Capela will be out for the Hawks, having already missed the last two games with a left adductor strain. Atlanta lost both of those games after Capela’s injury was diagnosed on Sunday.

Atlanta Hawks vs. Philadelphia 76ers Prediction and Pick

The Atlanta Hawks are the league's No. 1 volume offense, making more field-goal attempts per game than any other NBA team. Their 94-attempts average puts the Hawks ahead of the Indiana Pacers, Golden State Warriors, and Brooklyn Nets, and it has made Atlanta the third-highest scoring team in the league.

Atlanta averages 121.5 points per game and shoots 38 percent from 3-point range, so the Hawks could give Philadelphia serious trouble on Friday night.

Trae Young has been dishing out plenty of assists for the Hawks in recent games. He has had 10 or more of them in six of his last seven starts, and he’s averaging 10.9 per game so far this season. It will be interesting to see how Philadelphia coach Nick Nurse sets up the Sixers to defend against Young, who will gladly pass out of double-teams to open shooters throughout this game.

I chose to put Young’s assist total in my Friday night NBA same-game parlay for exactly that reason. I have also included Saddiq Bey, because I suspect he will be one of the main beneficiaries of those passes. The Hawks forward is a streaky 3-point shooter, and although he comes up empty on some nights, he’s hot right now with seven threes in his last two starts.

Bey is going to get open looks against a depleted Sixers roster, and I can see him sinking a couple of corner threes.

Philadelphia needs to find someone who can score on Friday. A strategy of Tyrese Maxey trying to drive to the basket has proven too obvious, and the Sixers’ starting five has no player who can hit at volume. Their perimeter shooting is abysmal right now, with this team only making 31.5 percent of its shots from deep in losing seven of the last eight games. Only the Washington Wizards are worse in that category.

The absence of Atlanta’s Clint Capela might help the Sixers here, because shots should be available under the hoop, but Philadelphia will have to drive hard for four quarters if it wants to keep up with the high-volume Hawks.

Atlanta has scored over 131 points per game over its last eight, while the Sixers are averaging 111 in that timeframe. Recently acquired Buddy Hield won’t be ready to play for Philadelphia, so unless Tobias Harris and Tyrese Maxey can combine for 60-plus points again, I don’t see how the Sixers win this one.

The Pick: Atlanta Hawks -2.5 (-105)

Best NBA Player-Prop Bets Tonight for Atlanta Hawks vs. Philadelphia 76ers

Tyrese Maxey Points

The Philadelphia 76ers' saving grace going into this game is the Hawks’ poor defense. While Atlanta is a high-flying team offensively, it leaks a lot of points on the opposite end, especially with Clint Capela out of the lineup.

The Boston Celtics managed to put up 125 points against the Hawks, while the L.A. Clippers scored 149 on them in a shootout. Atlanta allows 91.3 field-goal attempts per game. Only six teams give up more, and the Hawks are the NBA’s third-worst team when it comes to defending the perimeter.

The Sixers’ problem is that they don’t have the firepower right now to take advantage of these issues. Tyrese Maxey is Philly’s No. 1 scoring option at present, but Philly’s opponents already know that, so they are forcing him to pass out to players such as Kelly Oubre Jr, who led the team in field-goal attempts against the Dallas Mavericks earlier this week.

I don’t see Maxey reaching 30 points in this one, even against Atlanta’s defense. The Sixers haven’t scored more than 104 points in either of their last two games, and I think we might see another low-scoring night for the home team on Friday at the Wells Fargo Center.

I took Maxey’s under in my NBA same-game parlay picks, and I’ll take the under on his total points here, too.

The Pick: Tyrese Maxey Under 28.5 Points (-110)

Trae Young Assists

Head coach Nick Nurse’s Sixers can’t let Atlanta’s Trae Young have a big scoring night Friday, but given how well he’s playing right now, he can beat teams just about any way.

Young is playing arguably the best basketball of his pro career this season, and some of that is due to his improved passing and awareness in spreading the basketball to teammates.

His 10.9 assists per game in 2023-24 is a career-high so far, bettering last season's then-career-high of 10.2. Against a Sixers team missing several key components and multiple wing defenders, Young could have a monumental passing performance.

The Pick: Trae Young Over 10.5 Assists (-120)
