If you put a whole bunch of money on the Memphis Grizzlies to win the NBA championship, you have not been having a good time watching hoops this season. Not only has Ja Morant been suspended, but Marcus Smart got hurt, as did Jon Konchar. Steven Adams is also out for the seasonand Dillon Brooks is killing it for the Houston Rockets, the team he joined after leaving the Grizzlies as a free agent.

The Grizzlies were the second-best team in the West last season, and this season they are the second-worst in the West, tied with a Portland Trail Blazers team that is showing no shame or remorse in going through a rebuild after dealing away Damian Lillard.

Both teams are 6-19, which is not Detroit Pistons or Washington Wizards territory, but is close.

For the Grizzlies, the reclamation of the season, if it is going to happen, must start tonight as Ja Morant returns from a 25-game suspension for flashing weapons on not one, but two Instagram posts. The second one came after he had been warned not to do it again.

Tonight, we see whether we get a fresh look at the two-time All-Star we had grown accustomed to seeing on ESPN highlights, or whether we see a rustbucket who looks even worse than he did in the final game of the postseason last spring when Memphis lost by 20 to the Lakers in Game 6 of the first round.

Which will it be? Read on …

Best NBA Parlays Today – Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2023: 4-Leg Parlay Picks (+863)

Leg-1 Parlay Pick: Pelicans – 8.5 vs. Grizzlies (-110)

New Orleans has gone 5-2-0 as a home favorite, a 71.4 percent conversion rate, and has covered in three of the last four, including a very impressive 14-point victory against Minnesota on Dec. 11 when they knocked off the No. 1 team in the West. They are coming off a 36-point domination of the Spurs and they are getting steady, heavy production from Zion Williamson, Jonas Valanciunas, C.J. McCollum and Brandon Ingram. Tonight, they will put a pest of a defender, Jose Alvarado, on Morant, and they should get plenty from other bench contributors like Trey Murphy III and Naji Marshall. The Pels are sort of an under-the-radar, better-than-you imagined team, and although this is a hefty spread, the Grizzlies still being without Marcus Smart will make a difference.  If it is a blowout, let’s hope TNT cuts into the San Antonio-Milwaukee game for bonus coverage.

The Pick: New Orleans Pelicans – 8.5 vs. Memphis Grizzlies (-110).

Leg-2 Parlay Pick: Spurs-Bucks over 248.5 (-110)

Which Spurs team are we going to see? The one that defeated the Los Angeles Lakers by 14 points on Friday, or the one that lost to New Orleans by 36 on Sunday? Gregg Popovich most certainly has a Jekyll and Hyde team that very much deserves another very high lottery pick after losing 21 of their first 25 games. By all appearances it’ll be them, the Wizards and Pistons as the top ping-pong ball candidates by the time the draft lottery rolls around in June. As for this Tuesday night game in Milwaukee, the Spurs are running into a Bucks team that is 14-2 at home and easily covered a 16.5-point spread against the Pistons two games ago. It is tempting to lay the points in this mismatch, but when you look at the Bucks’ over/under trends they have gone over in 8 of 9 and have scored at least 128 points in seven of nine games. Moreover, the Spurs have gone over by at least 8.5 points in their last three games, so we will look for those trends to hold.

The Pick: San Antonio Spurs and Milwaukee Bucks over 248.5.

Leg-3 Parlay Pick: Celtics moneyline at Warriors (-225)

Boston is coming into this game on a five-game winning streak, and this is the largest underdog spread (5.5 points) to be attached to Golden State all season. They have been underdogs at home only twice all season, so this is an outlier line that we want to stay away from, not only because it seems like this one will end with Boston winning by 5 or 6, but also because Warriors superstar Steph Curry is coming off the first game in more than three years in which he did not make a single 3-pointer. He knows that everyone around the NBA is now talking about him instead of Draymond Green when it comes to Warriors conversations, and how that manifests itself tonight remains to be seen. It seems likely that he will be stoked and will regain his shooting form, but that in and of itself should not be enough to defeat an elite Celtics team that is winning games by an average of 9.1 points.

The Pick: Boston Celtics moneyline at Golden State (-225)

Leg-4 Parlay Pick: Trail Blazers + 7.5 vs. Suns

Phoenix was supposed to be an elite team, but the prolonged absence of Bradley Beal because of injuries has left most of the heavy lifting in the hands of Kevin Durant and Devin Booker, with a healthy helping hand lately from Jusuf Nurkic, who (like DeAndre Ayton) will be going against his former team tonight. The Trail Blazers are bad but not horrible, and the oddsmakers have been setting the Suns’ lines too high recently, as they have failed to cover in eight of their last nine games. Phoenix should be able to get the win, but Scoot Henderson and Malcolm Brogdon have been giving Portland a lot off the bench, and a motivated Ayton is a wild card that could help the Blazers take this one down to the wire.

The Pick: Portland Trail Blazers + 7.5 vs. Phoenix Suns.

Putting those four picks together produces a parlay with odds of +863, meaning a $10 wager would return $96.38. Add zeroes as best as you see fit, and good luck!
