The National Football League has held the national spotlight for the past few days, and they are now down to just eight teams standing. Pitchers and catchers are a month away, and this is the moment that Commissioner Adam Silver has been waiting for.

The NBA is the only game in town tonight, and the schedule makers planned for this with one of the best matchups of the entire season: The reigning NBA champion Denver Nuggets playing reigning MVP Joel Embiid in Philadelphia, where the collapse of the Eagles has been the dominant story for the past six weeks.

Nick Sirianni (coach of the Eagles) may not have a job by the time this one tips off at 7:30 p.m. EST on TNT, but when you lose six of your final seven games and get wiped out in the wild card round, what do you expect? You are welcome to make side bets with your buddies on whether Bill Belichick becomes the next head coach.

Meantime, Nick Nurse is the coach who matters the most for Philly fans, whose Sixers are 25-13 but will play only two more home games the rest of this month, tonight against the Nuggets and next Monday against San Antonio.

The Sixers are favored by 3.5 points, and a win that includes a dominant performance from Embiid could shake up the MVP race. Currently, Jokic is the favorite, followed by Shai-Gilgeous Alexander (Thunder), Luke Doncic (Mavericks) and Giannis Antetokounmpo (Bucks) in what is widely considered a five-man race. Folks in Boston are welcome to disagree, but the sportsbooks do not have Jayson Tatum listed with short odds.

So what to make of tonight’s epic tilt, along with the other two games on the slate: Thunder-Clippers as the second half of the TNT doubleheader, and Thunder-Suns. Here’s what we are thinking.

Best NBA Parlays Today – Tuesday, January 16, 2024: 3-Leg Parlay Picks (+544)

Nuggets vs Sixers Prediction and Pick

The Nuggets have been road underdogs only three times all season, covering just once. So there is not exactly a humongous body of work to lean upon, trend-wise. Philadelphia is 14-5-0 ATS as a home favorite, 8-3-0 ATS in non-conference games and 2-4-0 with no rest. Denver has not played since Sunday, while the 76ers are coming off a 124-115 home win over Houston while the majority of Philadelphians were watching Jalen Hurts and the Eagles getting their heads handed to them by the Tampa Bay Bucs.

Embiid had a 41-point, 10-rebound outing as he returned from a left knee injury that had sidelined him for three games. The Sixers were ahead by 19 at the half and were never seriously challenged in the second half of Monday’s win over Houston. But the team they are facing tonight is not a middle-of-the-pack assemblage of youngsters like the Rockets. The Nuggets are defending champions and are fully healthy, and a 3.5-point line seems too high, especially for a nationally televised game. The Nuggets do not mail those types of games in. This one probably comes down to the final possession and is a nail-biter throughout the fourth. A non-competitive game would be an absolute shocker.

Leg-1 Parlay Pick: Nuggets + 1.5 vs. Sixers (-110)

Kings vs Suns Prediction and Pick

The Kings are coming off one of the most entertaining games of the entire NBA season, a 143-142 overtime loss on a buzzer-beating 3-pointer by Damian Lillard from 30 feet out. It was the 2,500th 3-pointer of Lillard’s career, reminding everyone why he is known as ‘Dame Dolla.’ The combined 285 points were 39.5 above the over/under line, which is something we are seeing with regularity this season. Phoenix, meanwhile, has scored 127 points in each of its last two games (against the Lakers and Blazers), but tonight’s opponents have held them to 106 and 105 in their two previous meetings this season. Those are especially low numbers for an offensively adept Suns team that averages 115.8 points per game. Remember, the under is the only pick in gambling that is a winner when the game starts and remains a winner until (if) the over hits.

Leg-2 Parlay Pick: Kings-Suns under 244.5 (-115)

Thunder vs Clippers Prediction and Pick

The size of this line is sort of shocking. Yes, the Clippers are the home team and have been playing very well lately. Yes, they are the most overdue team in the NBA when it comes to winning a championship. And yes, the NBA will have a top-notch referee crew on hand because Commissioner Silver will be in the. But the Clippers are going up against the second-best team in the West record-wise. The Thunder have been defeating opponents by an average of 8.8 points, the second-largest point differential in the league behind the Celtics’ 9.7. The Thunder are an NBA-best 26-12-1 against the spread, and they are 6-2-1 as a road underdog.

Leg-3 Parlay Pick: Thunder + 6.5 against Clippers (-120)

Put those three picks together and you get a +611 parlay line at Betway, and a $10 wager would return $65.43. Add as many zeroes as you feel comfortable with, and good luck!
